well i payed about $4500 this year and you may be happy with the cost of tuition but it is a huge flaw in our society. Education should be free all the way up. Maybe you can't see this possiblilty but there are countries like Finland who pay for people to go to unversity anywhere they want to. Nobody should be burdened by education and you shouldnt have to prove yourself by how much money you have or have had to get to be where you are. It should be solely based on your academic skill. As for the people who dont want there taxes going to post secondary education, its clear to see that this money would be investing in there future. How could someone deny that?

HAHAHAH that is kinda true -
This is a tough subject I think if canada went to help stabilize iraq with the main goal being the withdrawl of the US i would agree with the decision. Its important that iraq stands on their own as soon as possible. Also if other countries joining the US in iraq would make the americans act with more humanity towards iraqi prisoners and help viloence between the opposing groups to decrease i would be very supportive of canadian troops going over. I dont beleive the reason we'd go over is because of pressure from other countries but simply out of the possiblitly we could make things better for the iraqi people then if it was just left to US. After all if we are unhappy with the americans actions we should try to step in and make sure everything is fair. True the states has made things messy in iraq but simply stating its their fault let them deal with it is kinda negative. These are peoples lives. But is it naive of me to think that canadian troops can influence the americans? Or would we go over and just follow their lead? If this is the case canada should have no part in it.

I agree with you guys... maybe David thinks he in the right and standing up for something he believes in but hes doing it in a completely unproductive way. Him not paying taxes is only going to get his family in a bad situtaion and not inspire anyone else to fight abortions. The only way i think this could work is if you lived in a country where a huge chunk of taxes did go to something many people didnt believe in. And the majority of the country agreed they wouldnt pay this certain perecentage like that lady did. If enough people did it (and thats probably why it would never work you would find it very hard to get enough people to make a difference) I think it would be an effective way of telling the government you want your tax dollars to be directed to other places. But i do realize its a pretty bad way to protest because its more destructive then productive.

okaay i will attempt to explain myself even better, im sorry for being so annoying but i think its an important topic. I know there is personal bias on everything im talking about the bias that comes from corporate power in the media...basically all our mainstream media is warped becasue of it (money has a much greater effect then personal views). The independent press association (http://www.indypress.org/index.html) are trying to even out the news out there by producing nonprofit publications who are dedicated to a 'just, open and democratic society' something that isnt possible without media being disconnected from money. Those two articles are from this association therefore i believe there is less bias to them. But please make your own judgement. I think thats probably enough about this now.

Nowhere did i state that these articles contained the truth about the happenings in iraq.I simply offered them as a different point of view then the ones the mainstream media has been giving us and said that it is interesting to see a different take on things.... Also this publication is from the independent press so i do give it more credit since it is not bias towards anyone..aka not owned by corporations but i will state again the only way to know the absolute IS to be there. I just wanted the people getting their info from the big headlines in the paper to be more critical of what they are reading. Also i didnt say it was naive to comment on things, only to belive fully in the media world.

I apoligize for my ignorant comment i admit it was generalizing and too harsh. Its just discouraging when good musicans sell out so im sorry, I know there is still lots of good music in the states. Anyways ive yet to hear your opinion, only your bad language... what else am i missing out on from the states and since the topic is canadian music do you have anything to add about that?? -
I dont disagree, but it seems to me thats still happening in the world, so maybe what ever we are trying to do to stop it isnt working. Some new ideas need to be brought to the table, so that next election voting wont have to be an act of bravery.

yea, because the only bands coming from America are what you hear on the radio. Fuck you, cunt. Im pretty sure that was completely uncalled for. Obviously you're american So why no suggestions to back up your claim that all i hear is on the radio??? please enlighten me to the music that someone like YOU listens too Id be really surprised if you even listen to music at all im sure your too busy killing animals and robbing old ladies. You are completely disgusting. I'm sure that last sentence was equally uncalled for. Anyways, to defend the state of American music, here are some of my favourite American bands: The Strokes Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Weezer Beulah The Shins Modest Mouse Neutral Milk Hotel Apples in Stereo Of Montreal Brian Wilson Jeff Buckley Ryan Adams Just because crap dominates the mainstream, doesn't mean there isn't great stuff if you look around. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure most Canadians would be offended if someone judged Canadian music by Nickelback. Debate over. I love how i had one sentence about american music and a whole paragraph about canadian music and people narrow in on something they can argue about so they can sound intelligent. Instead of adding to the positive side of disscusion they just figure out a way to prove someone wrong. The discussiopn was about canadian music and im sorry i brought up a snippet of opinon on the things across the border but really --> grow up. Think of an origanal postive thought if it wouldnt be to hard for you -
I think alot of the problems in our world come down to that one simple statement. We think differently How are whole countries supposed to get along when even we cant agree? Are we just doomed?

yea i know it sounds impossible but im sure at one point to iraqis the fall of saddam seemed impossible. You just cant process a revolutionary way of thinking. You say; they kill, they are bad, they have to held down. Nothing holds these things down... the only way to stop is too try to unserstand it and make peace with them. Iraqis will never be safe until this happens.
