Name My Band.

the name fuchinsky does not suck, you jerks. it's just not a band name. plus i feel weird about my last name being used for a band, so it's good that he's decided to go with something else. just a tip, though. instead of worrying about band names, perhaps you should worry about making good songs. -

my friend once told rich that she thought he was a dirty perv. he was hiding under some stairs spying on people at a show. but my story can't be anything near as glorious as the ones dirty could tell, i'm sure. also, sucks that he's gone but he seems like a swell guy. i'm sure he'll find something to do.

because matt has a thing for acting like he's above all this kind of stuff. when really, a lot of the time, he goes along with it and encourages people to continue on with the attacks. listen, i feel bad for the guy, cause 90% of the crap he receives he doesn't deserve. and i do think that people should perhaps calm the fuck down and quit trying to get him to argue just so they can say "oh, i pissed off matt good today on the internet". i agree with you there. the problem is, the people who attack him are not in the same position of power as he is. the people who attack him are basically still kids, looking for any sort of attention. doesn't make it right, of course, but there you have it. they do it because he responds. because it so obviously bothers him. like it or not, the responsibility is on him because he is famous. if you don't want to have a history of fighting with kids on the internet following you around, don't do it. no one cares if some random kid in someone's basement decides to log on and stir up some shit. plenty more care if matt runs around calling people names cause he doesn't like what they said. and now, this is what happens when you have years of people trying to get him to fight, then one person tries to have a civil discussion with his wife, which turns into some big blown out of proportion battle. then of course you have letters being fired off to amnesty, and a whole army of mg supporters getting up to defend the man. by writing an online journal and making it public, you are opening up yourself to comments from others, whether you like their opinions or not. i've got my own journal on LJ, and i've only had problems with people trolling it once (i'm not some fancy famous rock star, though). it's pretty easy to set the comments feature to friends only, and to ban users if they're being jerks. perhaps matt should look into this. -
i vote dave genn. why? no reason, really, except that i like him better.

holy junk, i saw this last night and it was so completely awful... i have no idea how anyone could have been scared by that stupid cat boy. ridiculous. i laughed, then i cried about how awful it was, then i fell asleep.
-
i fell asleep about 30 minutes into this one, so i don't have an opinion other than julianne moore is pretty hot. oh, and darkness falls was complete crap. i especially love how they stuffed a pillowcase and drew a mean face on it and pretended like it was scary.
-
i liked it but i think it was pretty over-rated. i went in expecting a whole lot from it because of all the rave reviews. it just... wasn't as good as i expected.

The Objectification Of Women
alas, it was not meant to be replied to pearanoid's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
hey now, not all feminists are like that. and really, they have their own reasons for believing what they do. and if there is anyone on here who agrees that the peta ads are supporting the objectification of women, i'd love to hear what they have to say about this. -

funny how while i'm viewing this thread, the ad at the bottom is for some pro-life garbage. -
The Objectification Of Women
alas, it was not meant to be replied to pearanoid's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
let me just apologize in advance for being all over the place. objectification of women seems to be more about seeing a woman specifically as an object of sexual desire. she's there to excite you and do whatever you want. because of this, she's not seen as being capable of having her own desires. the one power women do have, and you can't deny it, is the power of sex. if a woman chooses to use her sexual power, by posing nude or whatever, that is her choice. she's entitled to it. to say that she's being exploited or objectified turns her into just another victim and denies her the opportunity to express her own sexuality. not allowing her to have the choice seems worse to me than potentially being seen as an object. the women posing for PeTA were doing it for a cause that they believe in. no one forced them to do it. i doubt that most people seeing those ads would go "BOOBIERS!!!!!!!!!" and ignore the rest of the message. and i doubt that anyone would pay attention if these women had posed for similar ads fully clothed. at least in this instance they're posing in a sexually suggestive manner to get a good message across, instead of just selling the newest car or whatever. -
The Hour

i came across this the other night while i was randomly flipping around, and half watched it. someone wrote a letter complaining about how CBC is all about gay people now, and how they have a gay host. i giggled. so did george. -

i say kids because most people over the age of say, 18, have already pretty much figured out that matt makes decent music, but isn't necessarily the greatest guy to look up to. i see a whole lot of "OMG matt good is so awesome and i look up to him so much and he's sooooooo smart and i like everything that he likes" on here. a lot more than i've seen anywhere else. and yes, this is a place to talk specifically about his music so i understand that most people here are going to have a big mg boner going on. i used to be like that, too. then i realized that he's human, makes a lot of mistakes and isn't necessarily the god that so many make him out to be. -

aww, aren't you kids cute? yes, it was an over-reaction on both parts. but matty is a big boy and needs to learn that because of his position he needs to watch what he says. the delete button only gets rid of the posts. doesn't do anything for the backlash. personally, i don't necessarily think that someone who enjoys fighting with teenagers and belittling others on the internet is a great spokesperson for a human rights charity, but hey, maybe that's just me. and yes, i know he's done great work for Amnesty, yadda yadda ya. but at a certain point you just have to grow up and let it be. maybe this will help him with that. and for the record, i like his music and i used to admire him for being vocal about causes he believes in. can't say i have much respect for him now, though, with the way this has dissolved into some childish display of "woe is me". -
