The Smashing Pumpkins
borntohula replied to here is no why's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
i think that the new version is a dumbed down version of the old one. if they continue along this really muscular, "rockin" path, then i think that confirms my suspicions. if they change things up a bit, then i'd welcome that more. i appreciated zwan because it was the most... different corgan has been from the industrial rock/neo-psychedelia of the pumpkins. the songs were happy, but piss-poor. -
that's pretty cool. does everyone get to keep their mri scans?
-
i would've responded had you not figured the problem out on your own, and therefore, i'm going to take all credit for fixing your computer. ;)

let's get 365 days gone's opinion on this.
-
did i miss something?

i like her boss, but that's because i'm a fan of the wire. i just read that there's no mo fringe until april! fucking hiatuses. the show just came back. what a tease.
-
it does. sometimes i'm a bit mystified as to why there's such a lack of walter and pacey.

i know it happens, but it doesn't really occur much in my family or my group of friends. in the case of my family, we have an unwritten rule to stay out of the kitchen unless you're helping to prep/clean up... so while that might split things up in terms of genders, it doesn't really happen as much as you might think. my group of friends is built around the bond between me and my guy friends... the girls in the group are predominantly our partners/girlfriends, so this kind of dynamic encourages the splitting of conversations between genders, but never to the point where we're in separate rooms. we're also not the type of guys to talk about sports, nor are our girlfriends really the types to chat about cooking, so that might be the reason why this split doesn't happen. not sure. overall, i wouldn't be surprised if what you're noticing is a generational thing, or even an economical one. p.s. are you sure the women always talk about family and cooking? and the men only sports and business? maybe this is just fulfilling/projecting some misogynistic fantasy of yours.

he keeps getting awesomer every episode. last night's episode was pretty exciting. i was not expecting her to have "abilities."

that would make for an awesome forum banner.

"not enough tits. love, anton"

seconded. i'll do it if she does it. that's fair, right?
-
there. i diiiiid it. i think its kinda creepy knowing who has looked at your profile. even facebook doesn't tell me that.

this is ridiculous. WHY DO THEY WANT US TO BE THEIR SLAVES? it's a simple question, but all you can answer me with is "because" and "it's happened before." i don't think i need to be the person to point out that just because something has happened before, does not mean it can or will happen again. it's not that black and white. history is not cyclical. sure, events repeat, or there might be similarities here and there, but i don't think the future is that much of a sure-thing. i'm positive that if the holocaust wasn't such a great rhetorical device for you to deploy in your argument for the purposes of scaring people into thinking what you're writing about has a grain of truth to it, then you'd probably be a holocaust denier too. i'm tired of repeating myself and tired of being answered in contradictions and unsubstantiated claims. it's people like you who give the left a bad name. seacrest out.

as i've said before, i agree that fear was used as a tactic to make americans complicit in the war in iraq, as well as complicit in sacrificing some of their own freedoms, but i hardly see how that then leads to north americans living in concentration camps within the next ten years. this is a tactic that has been used before, yes, by hitler, but also by virtually every other western-world leader in a time of "crisis." i'm not contesting that governments have previously used horrific events, or even economic crises to dupe people into surrendering themselves to the "safety" that a government represents, nor am i trying to defend that abuse of governmental power. however, your evocation of hitler in this context is simply a device that attempts to work in a very similar way to this "fear mongering," which, if anything, makes you a hypocrite. you're trying to scare us into some sort of action or belief, in an attempt to make up for your lack of evidence for this theory in a context that exists beyond 9/11. it's 2009. how can you honestly connect 9/11 to the enslavement of north america? how long is this enslavement going to take? and again, i will reiterate: why bother putting us in concentration camps if we're already being controlled by the NWO?

What Are Some Bands...

yeah. i think they covered "sober" or something. so did baldy from staind: cliiiiiiichheeeeeeeeeee. no fucking way could he handle something like "ticks and leeches." these guys do alright, but that's probably because no one is trying to sing: oh, and there's this: -
haha something tells me that you'd be completely fine with that.
-
ok. let's say for the sake of an argument, that 9/11 was orchestrated by the US government, or their higher-ups in the NWO. how does that then connect to concentration camps? there's a really big leap between these two ideas that i think is where most people find it difficult to find your theories legitimate. i'm going to ask you one more time, and if i don't get a response again, i'm going to stop posting in this thread: where is the "why?" (thanks for finally answering my 9/11 commission question, btw). note: "why" cannot be explained in terms of "it has happened before" or "it is inevitable." those are both sweeping ideas which do not substantiate what you're saying in the least. and just as a reminder, here is the other instance where i asked you a similar question:

it should be pointed out though that not everyone who covers an artist is trying to sound like the original. so yes, i agree that covering a band in order to replicate that band's sound will often come off as disastrous and lame. i think cover bands are a different story though. they're conforming to a sound, whereas... some regular, run of the mill band that tries to pull off g'n'r might not have put as much thought into it. does that make sense? i think a g'n'r cover band would at least be required to sound somewhat like the original band. whether they do it successfully or not is something else, but if the dude's voice can't even hit the same register as axl's could, then they're not going to last very long anyways. also, i think that some tool could be covered just fine, (particularly their earlier stuff) regardless of whether the band was a tool cover band or not. i don't see why someone couldn't do "cold and ugly" justice. -
i don't know but i keep missing the new episodes. i'm gonna have to watch them online to catch up. how many have i missed now since the second part of the season has started back up again?

that was pretty good. it's a bit too "coffee shop" for me... like it's too safe sounding... but i'm not going to harp on that too much. with a name like "pamplamoose," they're going to be silly and irreverent, so i'm not going to take this too seriously. for something two people put together themselves, it's well done. -
in order for us to properly discuss your theories, you're going to have to engage with my arguments a bit more than this. what was missing, exactly? people have done a well enough job at poking holes in your theories without really knowing much about them. there's a lot that you're saying here that can be just discredited by common sense, regardless of whether we believe in the coming of the antichrist or not. personally, i believe that what you're saying is plausible, especially concerning the whole "six men in a room, controlling the world" theory. it's been well documented that a lot of decision making, particularly in the united states, is dictated by corporate-interest and those interests are significantly related to groups like the freemasons and places like bohemian grove. what your theory lacks though, is a context. there's no "why." you've posited that a small group of people orchestrated 9/11 in order to manipulate people into sacrificing their freedoms, and also allowing the US into afghanistan/iraq without much question ... but if these guys are actually in control of the world and the way in which it functions (and as i understand it, they control it primarily through the economy), why would they need to orchestrate something to the proportions of 9/11 in order to coerce people into action? i mean, your theory (about the global elite) is not a new one. it's been around for 20 years, maybe more. it didn't just appear post-9/11, therefore, it was plausible even then that a small group of people could be in control of the globe. if they indeed had so much control, and for so long, why 9/11? if we (as in, the general population) are already enslaved, why do we need to be enslaved again?

right, but it's not like you would know that he was singing through a gas mask when you were listening to the song on CD. visually you could consider it a gimmick, i guess, but it gives a unique sound, which is why i think he uses it. sondre lerche does kick ass. 3oh!3.... notsomuch. the rap bits are decent enough, but the unnecessary, autotuned chorus just kills it for me. sure they might be doing it ironically, but at the end of the day they're still singing in autotune. the guy singing sounds like the one from metro station or whoever that band is that has miley cyrus' brother in it (as in, "i can't sing for shit so i'm going to over-emphasize every single word so people know i'm serious"). also, the beats are tired and pretty lacklustre. also, dumb band name. i'm really not that negative of a person, but i seem to be getting stuck with responding to the music that's either unoriginal or just plain bad. canadian. from guelph, in fact. i'm sure most of the canucks responding in here have heard of these guys, but i like this song quite a bit, so who cares. EDIT: i could care less about the video. there's something about the end that i do like though. -
you keep saying this, but very early on i asked if you had bothered to read the 9/11 commission report. no response.
