Nanotechnology, The Death Of Us All?
calgarydave replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
Some of the neater things that they've come up with so far are: A DNA molecule that acts a tiny spring. Bucky Balls Some guy came up with microcapsules of glass that open at a specific ph or temp the idea being to be able to direct chemo more accuratly in the body theres others but I can think of them off hand atm -
lol what are the 2 english words that all the french know? "I surrender"
-
I know but its much more fun to claim that britan didnt want them. However I truely belive that the French dint want Quebec way back when. Why cause the colonly was losing tons of money so they had reason to loose it, and secondly they really didnt commit to protecting it during the war.

Juno Winners
calgarydave replied to Crusader's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with Bill Talent, the no talent hack winning 2 Juno's! And where were the nominations for WLRRR?!? -
lol yeah but they joined Canada cause Britan really didnt want them anymore ;) Also as I said technically its not THIER resources, under the relevant law they are beyond the border of a province. My numbers arent accurate but for the sake of argument the law states a province extends 10km into the water but the oil is 50km away.

Has Religion Done More Good Than Bad?
calgarydave replied to Dan #2's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
My fav book series Dune (wow aint that a suprise) Talks a lot about religion and politics. A great quote that I use a lot is "When religion and politics ride in the same cart, the whirlwind is sure to follow" Its a great book, at the end of the first book the main char sets up his political reign that is controlled by religion and you get to see it come apart. "Every revolution carries with it the seeds of its own distruction" "When law and duty are one, united by religion, you never become fully conscious, fully aware of yourself. You are always a little less than an individual. " "You cannot avoid the interplay of politics within an orthodox religion. This power struggle permeates the training, educating and disciplining of the orthodox community. Because of this pressure, the leaders of such a community inevitably must face that ultimate internal question: to succumb to complete opportunism as the price of maintaining their rule, or risk sacrificing themselves for the sake of the orthodox ethnic." okay enough quotes lol *edit* Dune Quotes -
Lol I should add a couple more things. I dont have the stats to back this up, but it has always been my understanding that Quebec pulls in more than they should based on the formula. This is one of the big reasons why people get annoyed. IF you look over the past 40 year or so Quebec has taken out just as much as Alberta has put in. The other big complaint I have, is I belive under the new deal Newfoundland gets a big chunk of thier offshore oil resevers, despite technically they dont have the rights too them. (The oil is beyond the border of thier province as set out in the constitution or BNA or whatever las determines it). Now I'm not saying that they dont deserve to have access to it, but our concern is where aer the feds going to make up that money? Well NFLD should have thier transfer payments adjusted to reflect thier new found income, and currently I dont belive that it will be. Lastly a lot of us are worried that the feds might implement a new law based on the fact that we are debt free, to try and take more of our money. This has been attempted before *cough* NEP *cough*. It quite often seems like Ottawa sees us as no more than a big bag with a giant $ on it.

I agree w/ you there and for exactly the same reasons. But also assume for a second that there is a god and a devil (I'm atheist so hence why the assumption) I cant think of a better way to divide mankind than religon. Lol on another note there was a funny actor who played mr. bean (I cant spell his name) where he was playing the devils assistant, and he was organizing the souls into categories. "Catholics? Yes over here please. Yes thats right, the Jew's were right" lol just about pee'd myself when I saw that -
Yeah gotta love federal transfer payments, we get seriously BONED. lol okay I dont mind it that much since we are a "have" province. But when ottawa does stuff like the NEP thats when we have to draw the line. Why? well jeeze even the rumour of it totally put our economoy in the shitter for a bunch of years.

lol risk is BLOOD sport

We've been "net debt" free, meaning our assest overweighed our debts. But as of last week the government has set aside enough money to pay off the rest of the debt as it comes due.

Nanotechnology, The Death Of Us All?
calgarydave replied to Moonlight_Graham's topic in Politics and Debate: WRONG!
The only problem w/ Moonlights defense is that the nano machines will probally be so small that gas masks wont help. Plus the most likely nanomachines that will be developed are dissaseemblers. It'll likely be a molecule that takes apart carbon chains. Shitty thing about that is nothing will protect you, even your lvl 5 bio hazard suit has those pesky carbon's in them. Another couple good books on the subject nto as good as prey though, is Moonrise and Moonwar (I think) by Ben Bova. -
we dont all hate gays, just our premier and bishop lol and nickleback sucks. Well thats not true its just that the radio station plays them all the time, so even if I kinda like a song of thiers the first time, but the end of the first week of its release, I've heard it 100 time and am sick of it.

No more debt for us! WHOO HOO! lol now the rest of ya's are REALLY jelous of our oil. MUWHAHAHAHAHA!

While I agree fully it was time to let her die. I just have 1 comment to make on the whole situation. Well more an allusion. You have a dog, who is very sick, and in a lot of pain so do you either: A) Starve it till it dies? B ) Take it to the vet and have it put to sleep? Oh btw I'm in favour of legalized eunthisa The one good thing that will come out of this, is I think more people will have living wills now. I know I've let my family know that I wouldn't want to live like that. *edit* stupid B)

The problem with public voted lists such as these, is the tendancy to associate an album that is currently "hot" and being played lots with it being great. Lol as was mentioned Billy Talent. Are we going to see that album on the list if this survey was done 2 years from now? Put more stock in the older albums (such as U2 Joshua Tree and BM) that are in the list, as opposed to the more recent albums. Oh and the only list a Nickleback album should be on, is the WORST CRAP EVER LIST
-
I might be in the minority but I definatly like his music since the band broke up better. Avalanche is by far his best album!

Thats for damn sure, shes a vegtable. Life at any cost my ass. If I was like that I'd want to be put out of my misery

I loved it, they held an emergancy session of congress for this, but when someone tries to pass a bill that would stop the CIA from deporting people to nations that they have secondary citzenship to, no one shows up and no one votes for it.

What we should really do is legalize all forms of drugs. I'll tell you why. First and most importantly, it'd piss the americans off to no end. There drug tzar(however you spell it) would probally pitch a fit. Secondly, you could take the shit out of it. Lets face it people are going to be able to get the drugs no matter what, its like trying to fix a dam with chewing gum everytime the police make a bust 3 more people step up to fill in the hole. But if you legalized it, hey at least the government could get their share and the use it to fund anti-drug programs or education or something. Lastly, you'd be able to track people's use of the drugs and get the people are really in trouble help, instead of letting them od in the gutter. Of course you'd get all the other benifits mentioned, slowing the spread of some diseases and whatnot.

Venom would be pretty cool, and they introduces that astronaut guy in the last movie. But hey I'm happy doc oc was always my fav when watching the cartoon as a kid. (The really old one)

Whats the point? I was going to go see this when it came out, assuming it have him in it again, but now, I'll probally jsut rent it.
