  1. Broken finished at over $200 cdn. Way too much for my lil' budget. I got lucky with BMS. One of my American friends got a an extra copy as a streetpreacher and sent me one for nothing.
  2. No security in front of the stage, and no steel barrier. New meaning to the words "reach out and touch someone"....literally, speaking. the stage was set very low, reaching about knee hight on me. It was a danger zone. "I find it really amusing that we've got ninty percent of the crowd trying to have a good time, and a bunch of fucking idiots in the back trying to ruin it for everyone else. What part of your brain doesn't fucking work that you can't understand people are getting fucking squashed up here? You want to act like an idiot, do us all a favor and go jump off a fucking bridge, cause I don't neeed it, and these people up here don't need it either." -MG The tickets stated that the doors were supposed to open at nine. We arrived at 7:30 to find the place already filled, mostly with locals (we're from Calgary). The venue was oversold considering its size, and I overheard a staff member say that they couldn't open the windows because there was a sound bylaw in place. Poeple smoking in such a small environment with zero ventilation creates a nasty place for smokers and non-smokers alike. One girl up front had a seizure prior ot Matt's set. No word on what caused it, but I can't imagine that tiny overstuffed room helped any. We (me and my des) were forced to stand behind a table with a high bench back, on which the people at the table decided to sit. When another girl standing beside me tried to sit up on an empty space, she got told that "only they got to use it, because they were friends with the staff." Midway through the set, one of the waitresses perched up on the railing and blocked my Designated Driver's view. Two words: shit show (for the part of the venue and staff, at least.) Matt got hit with a mic after the crowd surged forward and pushed a girl in front row up onto the stage. I believe this was during Weapon. He finished the main set and then took off to the bus because the agony was so great. What a shitty birthday. The people that thought it wasn't fair were the ones who stood around watching the band pack up asking "what's going on?" The best part? Not only did the venue post on their website that it was the "worst show ever," when I sent an email and standard post letter to them explaining my dissatisfaction with the management and the way things were run, they got angry with ME. Their customer. They were also stupid enough to send out personal and contract sensitive information to those of us that DID complain, in an attempt to "explain themselves." This then resulted in a legal dispute with between the bar management and Matt's lawyers. The lesson here? Don't waste your fucking time driving out to Wild Bills for a concert. They treat their acts and customers like shit. I'm not the biggest fan of Cowboys as a bar, but hey, at least we got through two shows without a mishap. And that's what went down. I'll never go back, and I urge everyone here to stay away as well.
  3. That's what I paid on the day of release... I saw a copy go on eBay last week for $90.
  4. Even worse is when you go to buy something, and less than a week later, it's on the top 30 chart or something, and listed for almost half the price. Good recent example: Wilco's A Ghost is Born...$19.99, or $9.99? Bah. Stupid "sale."
  5. I haven't been able to catch this show since the first two episodes. CTV is being a bastard, along with my local tv guide printing everything at the wrong time, and CBS is just as bad. Everytime I go to catch CSI (anything), I get that wretched Naval ripoff...that is to me, a crossover between CSI and JAG. Yuck. It's all about Vegas. Griss is the man. Anyone catch last week's ep? "Cleanliness *is* next to godliness" I laughed...it's been awhile since I've laughed like that. It was nice.
  6. ROFL You know, I didn't find this film half bad until **that** scene. Oh, dear lord. I just came back from watching this movie. Parts of it scared the $hit out of me, but then... well, see it and you'll understand.
  7. i remember that, too.. that was awesome Yes, he redid the last verse and changed the arrangement somewhat. Awesome. I have an mp3 of it somewhere...but it's nowhere near as good as hearing it live. There should be a copy of it on the Hub. Taylor (thebrokenrecord), or someone closly associated with him posted a high quality boot from a Kool Haus show recorded on the Avalanche Tour....maybe you folks already have it. If you don't, I highly recommend downloading a copy of the show. It's excellent.
  8. Parable Omissions of the Omen Generation X-Wing Fated Prime Time Deliverance I Miss New Wave/Failing the Rorschach Test The Man From Harold Wood Advertising on Police Cars/The Rat Who Would be King Avalanche Blue Skies Over Bad Lands Can't Get Shot in the Back (If You Don't Run) The lucky 13 ;)
  9. That would have been our friend pintosack (who posted just a few messages up) who did the recording. He has always done great recordings but found a way to out do himself that night. I also record shows and hope to one day achieve the quality that he puts out. Definitely a great listen! SCORE!! Thanks to pintosack then. This is wonderful!! ;)
  10. Does anyone know who the hell recorded the Kool Haus show in Toronto on the 23rd? There's this fucking wicked boot of it on the hub. Seriously one of the best quality boots I've ever heard.
  11. Banff...not Calgary:) Wild Bills!! I'd recommend you steer clear of that venue if any of your favorte artists happen to do a show there. What a shit show.
  12. I'm an idiot. I have NO clue how to use this thing...either that, or I really do have a shitty connection.
  13. Ha! Well, you might be onto something there. Ghetto is one of my favorite records though, so my opinion isn't valid for that determination. Also, in my case, LOTGA was the only thing available (ie released) when I first got into Matt....christ, I'm dating myself now. The point is, you're right. Without an instantly recognizable song on the back tracklisting to draw in a new listener, LOTGA will fall into the "last owned" category 9 out of 10 times.
  14. I got the same...gotta love google. lol
  15. Can't help you there...I love that song. It's the only song of theirs that I *do* like, but I like it so much its kind of frightening.
  16. Damn, and here I was getting ready to let you have it...jk. ;) My internet searches have come up empty so far. I'll keep looking...
  17. So, has anyone here heard any of the "Goodbanding" covers? I know the guy running the show was selling records on eBay last year, but I was too cheap to pick one up. I just wondered if anyone could tell me how good or bad these cover versions of Matt's songs were. I thought it would be good for a laugh at least...(if) they're terrible. There was a huge dialogue on The Metro about how he covered his favorites acoustically in his living room with a bunch of friends. He seemed an interesting character, to say the least. I forgot about it until this morning when I was sifting through a bunch of old MGB files from Munich. ;) That's if anyone here has a freakin' clue what I'm talking about. lol Thanks in advance for any info. And, before you get all medieval on my ass, I tried sifting through the past threads to see if this was there and came up empty...but I'm computer illiterate and blind as an old bat, so that might have had something to do with it.
  18. All Together got my vote... Can't Get shot is equal in greatness, but you can only vote for one...
  19. I have the lo-fi born to Kill. I have *lot's* of shit. I found lo-fi in a used record store in areally badly scuffed case, but with otherwise perfect inserts and disc for $5. I'll send you the file if you still need it. Is your email inbox big enough? Otherwise, I can try and send it on MSN. The Fated track was only recorded acoustically. The same version that's on the Aussie HTB and the Edgefest CD are on lo-fi. Enjoy the Silence is on every file sharing network known to man, but I can send that to if need be.
  20. Why? He's played 4 shows in this area this year alone. Aside from the Vancouver area and Toronto, we get the most dates played. I'd say its not so bad to live in Cowtown.
  21. Yeah, and then The Guitarist (Can't remember his name) Started to play the intro, right? Hey, the guitarist's name is Christian, but I'm sure you know that now:) I was there...stonewalled near the back behind the "Wall of Tall." I'm not a short person by any means, but it seemed that everyone over 6 feet decided it would be fun to stand in front of me and my short friends. And then the surrounding folks kept shooting me pissy glares when I'd get excited over a song. It's seriously not my fualt that I can recognize a song after one note... I was quiet **during** the songs. That's all that matters:) But I will admit i cna get a bit "excited." I saw a young woman wearing a home-made t-shirt for this website while waiting at the Tour bus, so I thought I'd come check it out. Seems nice enough to me.
  22. That was also my brother's first MG show... My mother came along as well. She just wanted to hear him sing Apparitions, and then the mic died. Then, she was the designated driver to Banff this summer, and just before he was going to play his encore, he had to leave because the pain in his mouth was too much. Guess what the first song on the encore was supposed to be? So, my poor mother is **convinced** that she has a curse, and it's her fault that these wretched mic incidents occur. She keeps using that as an excuse to not go back to another show, even though she loves the guy.
  23. My first MGB show was in December of 99 with Moist and Gob. The "Freezing Our Asses of Tour" t-shirt I bought that night looks like hell now. Last Friday was my 10th MG show. I still can't decide which of those ten is my favorite, but the Wild Bills fiasco in Banff this summer takes the cake as the worst:)
