Full Band Setlist Megathread (merged)
Nearfantastica replied to Monochrome Rainbow's topic in Matthew Good
I agree with you 100% The Virgin Festival was the 39th MG show I've been to. All of them in Alberta, and all of them different experiences from each other. Aside from the fiasco that was Wild Bills in Banff 2004, this was the worst show I've seen. Matthew Good's Greatest Hits. For all the respect given the band, it might as well have been Disc 1 of In a Coma playing over some horrible speakers that bleed in and out while everyone has a beer and laughs at the obnoxious jokes scrolling over the "text your message to the big screen!" banner. Black Helicopter was the best part of the gig, hands down. But I was seriously disappointed, especially after watching the rest of the tour play out. The set list wasn't even an hour long, we got no encore, and the slowest song played was Apparitions. All I wanted was Champions. No such luck. Giant, Hello Time Bomb, Everything is Automatic...after those three songs, I honestly felt like I had gone to the concert in the Delorean. I looked around for the flaming stuffed animals that made his show at Stampede in 2000 so ...bizarre. I should have expected it, I suppose. But I felt the set pandered to the "festival crowd" and after spending almost $80 to get in, I felt kind of ripped off. But I'll stop bitching now. I'll still pay to see him play again, and I'll still regret not buying Edmonton tickets when I had the chance. Oh well. -
That was in September at Jack Singer, right? That is awesome. I remember being so happy for the person that requested that. I've met Matt a couple of times, dragging various friends along with me each time. They always comment on how nice and accommodating he is. It really shocks them all. I think the work he's put into making people think he's a jerk has paid off. All kinds of folks stare in shock when he does nice things for his fans and is a genuinely nice guy.

*sigh* Yeah, that was a good show. The lawn chair, the redemption of stuffed critters by fire, the plastic sword... good times:)Thanks for reminding me! The rain at Folk Fest would have been fine if it hadn't been so bloody cold. I spent the whole the the set huddled under a child's NHL quilt that a friend had stuffed in the back of her car. I might endure this Virgin Fest. I've seen the Hip about half as many times as Matt (still a sickening amount), but if Edmonton falls through completely, I can't just break my record because I'm too "good" to hang out with a bunch of people not worthy of Matt's show. Er...we'll see.

Really? I wish I'd been standing with you then. I got smashed in the head from a surfer's kick at the show in 2000, and the one in 2003 had me stuck behind a gaggle of teenage girls all screaming for Matt to take off his clothes. I moved on both occasions, the first one with the help of security, the second just my moving to the side so I couldn't see, just listen. Prior to that was Edgefest in '98, which was good, but I don't know if that's because I was 16 or not. The outdoor Folkfest crowd was incredible, but it poured rain and was freezing. As you can see...me luck with the outdoor festival's just doesn't exist. But I might suck it up and go anyway. We'll see.

I'm looking for 2 tickets for the Edmonton show on June 21st 2008. I'm willing to pay double the face value, but no more than that. If you have tickets that you need to offload, please let me know. You can contact me here or via email: [email protected] Thank you kindly.

Ok, am I the only one in Cowtown that is disappointed in this announcement? I am really not interested in this virgin music festival. I was really looking forward to a sit-down theater gig like every other city. Not only that, but I cannot afford the $80 for a single day ticket to this event. So, I'm sad to say, that I'll probably be breaking my ten year streak of not missing a MG show in this town. I'm a bit depressed at the thought. Now I really wish I'd bought tickets to Edmonton when I still had the chance. **kicks self**

As much as I love the Jack Singer, The Jubilee is even better. They just renovated, so everything is nice and new, and the acoustics in the theater are absolutely amazing. It's a great venue, and I wish they would hurry up and announce a Calgary date...or at least get rid of the "more to be announced" subtitle.

He played a bunch of shows in 2002 in Vancouver....December I think. Perhaps that is what you're thinking of.
-
When was Failing the Rorschach Test and I Miss New Wave played? I went to all the Beautiful Midnight tours, and I never heard either one of those songs played. \ At least, I don't remember them. But that was a *long* time ago.
-
That is what I'm most excited about too:)
-
Apparitions is a great song...but just once I'd like to see a show without it. I've seen 36 shows and the only one he didn't play it at was Wild Bills, where he had the intention but never made it that far. I realize it's his most popular work and that there are people in the audience that come JUST for that song...which is why it would amuse me to see it dropped.

Pictures are easy to get. Just wave a camera around and smile. He'll be happy to oblige. Especially when you tell him how far you drove to get there. :)
-
Yeah...and the waiting is painful.
-
Oh thank you! I've listened to it over and over....and it was bugging me.

This is easily my favorite of what I've heard so far. This is my first attempt at lyric decoding: I used to steal ?????? signs[??] Couldn't keep em in the basement [??] Used to stay up all night Chemistry ???? replacements[??] I've seen that door [??] I've walked through it both ways before I lived just around here I'd sleep just around here I'd wake up every day My feet hit the floor in exactly the same place Tell me will I love Tell me will it be enough? Tell me will I stay? with my feet in exactly the same place... Step right up There's only a crowd if you hit the ground Can't get up Can't stand standing Stare down [??] This is us [??] We clean up till we're invincible (invisible) [??] I grew up just around here I shouldn't feel just around here I wake up every day Holding my head back, in exactly the same place [??] Tell me will I dream? [??] Tell me will it be sweet? Tell me will I stay? With my feet in exactly the same place...

He said in the comments for the original tour announcements that he will be coming to Calgary (in response to someone expressing anger over the Foo's and now Matt skipping town). There are 2 days between Edmonton and Kamloops, and we're on the way, so I would imagine they're trying to line up a venue. I've got my fingers crossed for the Southern Jube.

That's what happened to me too...and I was an art geek in high school, so the art geek wearing a football jersey just didn't mesh. That's probably why I sold it to some girl in Ontario for $300. It was a decent turnaround. I recall someone in the states buying the jersey simply to remove the patch for their backpack (we discussed this back on the MGB funland's mailing list. Anyone else remember that thing?) because at the time, it was about the same price to buy the jersey as it was to track down a patch.

The Tea Party
Nearfantastica replied to sodamntired's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I enjoyed their albums. I saw them play a few times and always enjoyed that as well. They used to cover DCD songs all the time, and that endeared them to me. They also did an orchestral tour in 2002 that was fabulous (even though it was sponsored by duMaurier). Jeff Martin's solo effort was contrived and pretentious though...kinda spoiled everything for me. -
I saw her in Banff last night. I was disappointed because she didn't introduce herself until the last possible second, and even then it was a sentence all folded into a single syllable. She didn't have much personality on stage, except for her continual references to Hamilton and "being fucked up by the clear mountain air." I don't know if it was because she was nervous or having an off night, but I didn't care much for the performance as a whole. A couple of the songs were decent, but not as good as Dala (in my opinion), and nowhere near Melissa.

Stargate Atlantis

I've thought the acting was even worse the last 3 episodes than in seasons prior. -
Hello folks. I bought a Hospital Music "track jacket" at the Calgary stop on the tour a few weeks ago. It's an XL, 100% Polyester. I paid $65 for it and I've never worn it. I have a smoke free home, and the jacket is new. I'm looking to get about $60 for it. Since this item is still available on the tour, I'd be willing to take around $60 *including* shipping (To a Canadian address. US or International would have to pay the difference). Is anyone interested? Send me an email to [email protected] and we can discuss the details. Thanks for looking:)

I'm going. It should be good:)
-
The only problem with this is that I *hate* listening to CJAY 92. I probably won't win just because of that. :/
-
I'll be at the Calgary show. I just got 4 seats in Row A, center back Dress Circle level. Plenty of leg room, no one in front. I'm happy:) Lucky show number 25 for me!

No, you're not. She as a gorgeous, smokey quality to her vocals. She's very talented. We have a lot of great, distinctive pipes in this country (male and female).
