  1. Or you could even try emailing Matt himself. He might be able to better ballpark some time for you, and I know he's been super accomodating to overseas fans in the past that make the treck for shows.
  2. I would think most of the people here would be trustworthy enough for the task. I certainly never had any problems in the MGB community with people taking advantage of the needs of international fans.
  3. Ship it to a Canuck. Shipping to us is cheaper, and we can post it to you for around $10, and mark the tag as a "gift" so that you don't incur customs fees. I used to run an ancient yahoo mailing list called the "Matthew Good Band Trading Empire" and we did this kind of stuff all the time. Or, ask someone to buy it for you and send a money order to that person for the cost of the hoodie and the postage.
  4. Oh, but it's not just a convenience fee for online ordering. If you got to the inconvenience of driving to the nearest ticket master location in Calgary, (mine is about 1/2 an hour from my house), you STILL get to pay for the "convenience."
  5. Just because you could obviously tell by some people's scans that poor Matt's hand was tired. I'm sure the first 10 were spot on, but from 190-200? Some were a bit...sloppy. But they still count as legit. I'm sure the owners were ecstatic. The best autograph I ever saw was an Avalanche vinyl that he sketched one of his faces in. That was awesome.
  6. As with any artist, Matt's sig has changed over time. He's honed it into something that both looks good and is more efficient. I have a signed Underdogs CD where he wrote out his whole name. In the BM era, it changed again, and then shortened again after he went solo. Mind, there are also hundred's more people that want autographs now then back in the day. But when White Light came out with the first 200 copies signed, I was disappointed with some of the sigs. I prefer to get it done in person. Most of the time, he'll personalize it for you too:) And yes, I realize this isn't an option for everyone. It is however, my personal preference.
  7. I don't need the signed copy, since I usually get all my stuff signed eventually anyway. I am hoping I can just grab the CD when it comes out at a store, but I will pre-order the damn thing if must. What I really want is the vinyl. Back in the day, I had no problems getting a hold of stuff. The audience expansion thing is paying off...I guess. I just don't want to be one of those poor suckers that has to buy the thing off eBay for double the price. *edit* And NOW the info is available.
  8. I caved this morning and bought tickets to the show in Medicine Hat. My boyfriend and I discussed it and figured that we likely wouldn't fit in with the whole X92.9 "Molson Canadian Rocks" crowd anyhow. So we're going to the 'Hat since purchased tickets = gauranteed admittance. That and a concert sponsored by Molson will likely have a similiar set list to the Virgin Festival, and I didn't like that gig at all...*wince* Hopefully there isn't an insane storm with white-outs that weekend:)
  9. The X92.9 website www.x929.ca There is a banner ad that pops up before the main site opens. It gives the location on that banner.
  10. Matt's Show is Friday November 7th at Mt. Norquay, which if I remember is a ski resort.... *edit* They also just announced a Medicine Hat show...maybe I'll get tickets and drive there instead. At least it's gauranteed.
  11. I'd believe it wasn't at Wild Bills. I cannot imagine Matt ever playing there again given what happened at the last show, and after it. The town is pretty small though. For the safety of the people involved, I'd say the Banff Centre would be the best choice, but given that it's sponsored by Molson, it'll probably be at a bar. There's a tiny bar across the street from Wild Bills that has a stage, perhaps it's there? If I were Mr. Good, I'd play in the November streets before I'd go into Wild Bills again, but that is just me.
  12. No, I haven't. All cards point to Wild Bills, which is tragic... Sorry to hear about caller 8, Calgary Dave. I called last Sunday when they played Rico. I didn't call until the first chorus was over, and I got through. The guy told me I was caller 1. What? Caller 1? But the song is almost half over! So, there is no rhyme or reason to the system at all.
  13. If you get charged for that, then there is a serious error, since they couldn't connect your call at all. I recommend trying from a landline. When I call from the landline, I get a busy signal. Yesterday I was caller 6! So we're getting closer:)
  14. If and when you figure that one out, please give me the hack when you're done:)
  15. All circuits are busy, please try again later. I am hoping that as the weeks go by, they'll step up the quantity of songs played each day. Before this contest started, you could expect a minimum of 6 Matt Good songs on any given day. Today, they played Rico at 8:30, Haven't Slept in Years at 2:30, and Strange Days at 9pm. But, we all have until October 24. Good luck! I hope at least one of us wins.
  16. It seemed that way at first. Now they say that the second "mystery gig" on Saturday night will be at Wild Bills, but there is no info yet on where Matt will play. I hope, for the sake of the audience and the band, that the venue is NOT Wild Bills. If it turns out that way, I cannot wait to hear what quips Matt might have about the venue that evening.
  17. I hear you. It's going to be tough though. I called four times this afternoon during "Haven't Slept in Years" *before* Matt started singing. I couldn't get through. I hate these "be X caller to win" deals. It would be much better if you had to call and answer a question or something.
  18. The info is up on the website now: http://www.x929.ca/onewkndonly.php
  19. There is nothing on the website. It's a Molson sponsored "one weekend only" thing. If I'm not mistaken, they just announced it this morning. The only info I can find is what is being announced on the radio.
  20. The weird thing is that he's supposedly playing at Wild Bills again. After what happened last time, I'm very surprised he's going back to that crap hole.
  21. I also like the arrangement, and the piano in particular. Vocally, he sounds like his throat is full of fluid, and that turned me off immediately. You're right about the ridiculous part. I am always cautious about people covering songs I love, but it is bound to happen eventually if the songs are any good. I honestly think I would be a lot less critical if it were a woman trying to cover it. To quantify that, I guess it's because I understand that male and female voices will never sound the same (and if they do, there's something wrong), so there's a bit more leeway for covers that bridge the gender of the vocalists. For example, I enjoy Tori Amos' cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit, and I don't *hate* the Evens Blue cover of Sarah McLachlan's Possession. Now, Possession was on Canadian Idol a few years ago, the singer was a young girl, and it was horrible.
  22. Thanks for the clarification. You're right, In a Coma is good. As for your question? I thought the festival would have been a good place for exposure. I'm kicking myself for posting my "non set list complaints" elsewhere, because they made my "bitch bitch, moan moan" speech more complete. I wrote on the blog comments that the alcohol consumption and high price of water made for an intolerable crowd. After sitting through that most of the afternoon, I was excited that Matt's set was starting. My other complaints were about sound quality and festival organization, nothing of which had anything to do with Matthew Good himself. As for the set? I do not have some sense of entitlement, nor do I believe that *my* personal favorites need be played at every show. I have heard my personal favorite played 3 times, and I don't expect that will ever happen again. The set was good. It was a fun set, and it made a lot of people happy. The songs chosen were by no means bad songs. I didn't mean to make it sound as if they were. (Apparently I need to work on communication). I had held out the hope for more variation, on the basis of exposure. Play 2 hits, maybe play one not-so hit, 3 hits, etc. Yes, I would expect that there were 16970 of the 17000 people there that weren't "hard core" fans. But there were some of us there that would have appreciated the nod, and as for the rest? Maybe it would have made some of them sleepy....or bored. But what about positivity? What about the potential "this is something I've never heard of before, and I like it, so I'll check it out." I just look at it as an opportunity to perhaps reach a larger audience with something other than what the corporation deemed worthy of the radio. I guess one could argue that the one song I'm asking for was "Black Helicopter," which was played. It could also be argued that Matt is popular enough to not need that brand of exposure, but to that I say BS. I don't know if that answers your question.
  23. Yeah, I saw that. I guess criticism isn't permitted from the fan base. I should have stayed home. Too bad, I was there. I also noted that there was more to the negative experience than the set itself. I don't feel he needed to apologize, for what it's worth. I do recognize the reasons for choosing the songs that he played. I just don't agree with them 100% Like I said in the original post, I will still pay to see him again. God forbid anyone around here expresses anything but complete delight and awe over a Matthew Good concert experience. But I also said I've been to 39 shows. It was bound to happen eventually that one wouldn't meet my expectations. *shrug* I won't apologize for posting an opinion.
  24. It also wasn't a *great* setlist. So why should I "be happy with what got?" I don't understand why it's inappropriate for me to express dissatisfaction with my experience. Edgefest was 8 years ago. Prior to the introduction of Matthew Good as a solo artist and records like Avalanche, White Light, and Hospital Music. Prior to acoustic tours, re-workings of old hits and an obvious effort to distance himself from what he was back in the good ol' days of Edgefest. The concert was okay. It wasn't great. It wasn't congruent with what I've come to expect from Matt's shows over the last 5 years (since 2003, where he re-launched as a solo artist with new directions in mind). By the way, he played Stampede that year. It was a "festival" style show, meant to serve the masses. You'll find "Avalanche" was in the set list.
  25. Not his first Festival either, at least not that I recall...and yet, still the first one I attended where it was all singles. It wasn't the only complaint we had either. Just one of many. But I suppose you're right. You can't expect complaints at a forum for discussion. Never mind that they (The festival organizers, artists, etc) are still selling a product. No, we can't complain as consumers who were disappointed with the experience given the money we paid. We should all be bowing down to the perfection of "just being apart" of the experience.
