'old Fighters' (International Matthew Good Compilation Album)
THE MAN replied to trufflepigs's topic in Matthew Good
Come to think of it, you know that Matt is just sitting on that solo acoustic show recording from Massey Hall. Will it ever see the light of day? Let's hope he desperatly tries to get out of a record contract by pumping out extraneous releases such as that haha. And for the love of all things holy, I Wish I Was A Tidal Wave needs to be released. Wishful thinking, I guess. -
'old Fighters' (International Matthew Good Compilation Album)
THE MAN replied to trufflepigs's topic in Matthew Good
While I understand that it's moreso for markets that can't get these songs, it seems like there was some missed oppourtunity on this release. There are a handful of songs I would love to see released on physical CD sometime (as I prefer the sound quality) Can't Get Shot In The Back (Hospital Music B-side) Silent Army In The Trees (Live Acoustic from Massey Hall) Black Helicopter (Live Acoustic from MAssey Hall) Darlin' (Lights Of Endangered Species B-side) Of course there are many other great B-sides I would love to see released, but it seems like these would've been a fairly straightforward addition due to their current availability. -
The Rat Who Would Be King, trying to hit that damn ending vocal line is madness. Very glad I got to see that song played live.

How Much Does Lo-Fi B-Sides Go For Now That In A Coma Is Out?
THE MAN replied to Tywin's topic in Matthew Good
Not Lo-Fi related, but I picked up a used copy of Loser Anthems from Sonic Boom records for $3 last night before seeing Limblifter. I consider it a fine deal, haha. -
Hahaha I need to have faith *cue George Michales*

Just checked Milos' twitter, and it looks like Pat Steward has been confirmed for sure on drums If you hear any noise, it's just me and the boys. Day #1 of the @MattGood record @100Powell (Warehouse Studio in VAN) with Pat Steward. YES!

If anyone wants to follow along with the album as it goes, Anthony (keyboard player on the last tour) is posting some pictures and videos. https://twitter.com/MegatronHands Cool that he is getting him on the record. Makes me even more interested to hear the reults.

The Boy Come Home. Really most of Hospital Music haha. I seriously only listen to the live versions in a playlist. It's vastly superior. Except the live version of Devil's In Your Details. I love that song but the live version is SOOOOOO SLOOOOOOWWWW gaaahhh

Interesting that he has that Grey Cup show in Toronto right in the middle of recording it would seem. Do you think he plans to finish recording by then, or will his original claim of wanting to record each song in a different studio in small towns come to pass? He mentioned this during his interview on the Strombo show.

If you recall, there was a good 6 or 7 months gap between the completion of LOES and it's release, I'm sure that helped shorten the writting time post release. Too bad no Warne Livesy again, he is great.

From his Facebook: The head’s a bit like a traffic jam. I’m producing the next recording, so I’ve that aspect to deal with on top of finishing up a few bits and pieces on the songwriting front – lyrics basically. Some have asked what sort of record it’s going to be. The straight answer is – a rock record. Of course, there are many different types of “rock” these days, so as to ‘what sort of rock’ - every now and then, after taking vacations into stranger climbs, I find myself gravitating back to the music of my youth – a lot of Pixies, Replacements, Husker Du, etc. I’ve always considered that, well, rock & roll. Some used to refer to it as “alt rock”. There are so many genres these days I simply can’t keep up. So let’s just leave it at – rock record – just like everything from Black Love to Ok Computer were rock records. I’m really looking forward to it actually, as instead of playing the majority of things myself I’m bringing the lads in this time to track the parts. Rough and tumble, rough and tumble. Truth be told, it’s been a while since I’ve written a collection of songs like this, so I’ve been overcome by a “throw caution to the wind” sort of attitude. That said – and as some of you are aware – the time between recording and release isn’t instantaneous. It’ll be released next September, with a first single going to radio sometime in the mid to late spring. There may even be a few videos for this one as well (god I’m really too old to be on film). There’s a few other announcements of note that I’m sitting on at the moment that are pretty cool, but I’ve to be patient I’ve been told – so you’ll have to stay tuned. I'm excited to hear it. Glad to see he's getting a full band involved. Let the rumors begin! Here are my questions: 1. Will there be any co-writes or contributions from Ryan Dahle? 2. Who will play guitar? I assume new guy from the last tour who's name I can't remember but he was really good. 3. Who will drum? I'm hoping for Ian Browne but with Pat Steward on drums the last few one-off shows and his notable amounts of appearances on past records it could be either. And I really hope there are some inspired drum fills like on WLRRR or any of the MGB records matt plays a fine set of MIDI drums but nothing beats a great drummers natural feel. 4. Any chance of Stu or Blake showing up? I think Matt is interested to give the newer lineup a shot now. 5. I wonder what the other announcements will be. I assume a show in the UK at least.

I would be quite happy to see a Canadian solo tour. Had the good fortune of getting to see that Zaphod Beeblebrox show in Ottawa all those years back and haven't gotten to see him acoustic since. I still get a kick out of when he was playing Apparitions after going on a rant about Tyrone Bigguns "I smoke rocks!" skit, he forgot the 2nd verse lyrics and blamed Tyrone for distracting him before hitting the chorus. Pretty hilarious. That would be cool to see him play acoustically with a piano back up, though. Hey, why not throw in a cello or something as well. That could be interesting.

Hey hey everyone! I figured I would throw up a thread to see if anyone else has heard any rumors regarding a new album follow-up to LOES. In particular, I think that a new album isn't even that far away. If anyone remembers that nice long 2 part interview he did with Alan Cross, the question was asked about any new work on the horizon, and Matt responded by saying that he wanted to record during a tour with a live band, and do a different song in each city. This isn't the first time he brought up the idea, and he's been saying he wanted to do an acoustic album with Warne Livesey in a different hotel room for every song for years now. That right there seems to just tell me the possibility is more than likely for it to happen. 2 things that run through my mind are that in all reality he finished the songs for LOES nearly a year ago so he's sure to already have some new stuff written. And with all the time between when the dates were announced and when they are, there's time for the preproduction involved. The other interesting point is that if you look at how the tour dates are set up, there are a few breaks in the schedule. If you watch that Alan Cross interview again, he mentions that he would record in more "interesting" cities like Peterborough, and if you look at the dates, there's a day off after that show. Same thing with the Red Deer show in Alberta. There's 3 days off between that show and the one in Edmonton, and it does NOT take 3 days to drive from one to the other. It costs some big dollars to keep 10 people on the road, and if you ask me you wouldn't just be dicking around in Alberta for 3 days with a full tour crew unless you were up to something interesting. There's a few other tour breaks like that which also raise my interest in this possibility Now maybe I'm just looking for things I want to see, but it does make me think that there might be some recording going down this tour. What's everyone else think? All just wishful thinking? All I gotta say is that if it is true, then we get Ian Browne on drums for a record. That's a reason for some celebration! (no offense to Stu or Pat, they are both stellar drummers, Ian is just a favourite of mine.)

Limblifter - I/O Sloan - Never Hear The End Of It Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue Tristen - Charlatans At The Garden Gate Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema Voivod - S/T (2003) Stone Temple Pilots - S/T (2010) Joel Plaskett - Down At The Khyber Kind of a mixed bag but all those albums are pretty great and have been in rotation lately -
God damn, Ian Browne? That's killer news. Defiantly the best drummer he's played with in his career. Here's some speculation: During his interview with Alan Cross, Matt said he wanted to record the new record one song at a time while on tour in different cities. Anyone think that this will go down this tour? Maybe there will be a cool drum fill on a record for the first time in 8 years, hahaha.

What Was The Original Track-listing For White Light And Audio?
THE MAN replied to a topic in Matthew Good
I'm kind of going off slight comments made on his blog years ago but I remember him mentioning getting rid of the old band (Pat, Christian and Rich) for something involving drug use. Maybe someone lit a doobie on the tour bus. I also remember him mentioning that he liked the freedom of playing with differnet musicians when he wanted, but I still have my money on the drugs. -
Favourite Matt Good Exclamations During A Song
THE MAN replied to Devil On Rollerskates's topic in Matthew Good
How can no one have included the "naughty monkey" bit at the beginning of Falshdance II? Brilliant. Or the entirety of M. Trolley vs. Matthew Good. I also like "cause no one trusts me around here" in Seriously Serious. edit: just noticed Toadman's comment. Good choice. -
Man oh man I haven't posted in a while. Hello all y'all! This is all pretty hilarious, people getting in an uproar over this. I was passing time at work and figured it was too tempting to resist throwing in a few cents worth of opinion. I guess people are pissed off because they now have to pay money to read someones opinion. Ah well! I know I sure enjoyed the blog while it was around. It was informative and well written. As much as Matt is a great musician, he's also a great observer of today's political and world climate. It's always nice waking up in the morning with some tea and reading some stuff (Matt's blog was essentially my main news source. More trustworthy than CNN if you ask me). Just because the man doesn't write a few paragraphs every other day explaining his opinion on this stuff doesn't mean it's not there. Just hit up his delicious page and assume he's not a fan of most of what's going on. Simple. As far as secret access to behind the scenes info, etc. There's a reason all of you are signed up to a fan run message board! If you're a hardcore fan (such as myself) you'll find out the juicy info soon enough anyway so don't sweat it. So what you won't have a chance to win a setlist book. Look that shit up on the net if you really want to know. Matt COULD only allow black european zionists to view his blog for the price of your vital organs if he felt like it. Instead he charges a few bucks. Whatevs! And most importantly, he might just be BUSY right now, eh? Give him a few months maybe he'll have some more time and resurect the blog. It's not the first time it's gone away. There was a solid stretch of a few months in 2004 where there wasn't even a legit site. Just a picture and a "we'll be back" message. Don't get your knickers in a knot. Let's all just be honest. If you're complaining, you just want to hear the demos. Face it! They will ruin the next record for you anyway. I'm not M+ but I know enough "inside info" to not break the guy's balls over a user fee. Anyone who plays WoW should be exempt from complaining hahaha.

Both Avalanche and WLRRR went gold in Canada, but Avalanche sold more. In regards to making money off the record, I would imagine Matt did make money if he fronted the money himeself. He did the album in 2 weeks, which chopped off a huge chunk of change, meaning he spent less, so he recoops faster. I also think its why Christian only plays on 4 tracks, so that he doesnt have to give him a large cut from sales (or maybe matt just wants full creative control). When it comes to record sales, Its split 50/50 with the artist and the distributor. Not only this, but Mechanical licenising fees are given directly to the artisit. For every song on the CD, the artisit gets 8.7 cents for the first 5 minutes, and an additional 1.7 cents for every minute after. The artists money from CD sales is also split between the Producer (who takes up to 3% from every sale) and the management company (anywhere from 10 to 50%). As far as live shows, that really is where an artisit makes the money. He gets basically all the money from ticket sales, and merchandise sales are split 50/50 with the club owner (unless sold outside in a van, then its all the artists profit). The management also takes a chunk of the preformance fees. The CMRRA also pays a certain amount of money to the artisit for every song played, which isnt touched by anyone. An artist will also get money from radio play and video play (roughly $14 every time a song is played anywhere) and from TV useage (comercials, shows, etc.). If you have any other questions on the industry, PM me.
