  1. Yeah agreed there are superior codec's out there but it was a deliberate sacrifice for the sake of being an almost across the board acceptable format. I wished I could've copied the stuff at 1.0x speed but couldn't find a program or programming trick to rip them that speed and still get the metadata in there so it was all downhill from there, haha. I copy it all with itunes too, but I don't even like the player to be honest, haha. The shuffle I find very predictable. MegaSeg lays the boot down on it. Organizies files well though, so itunes does my dirty work. That is what I'm going for. Easily readable HD files on any player. Just access the portable drive and it's all there nice and organized.
  2. Sounds like it's time for Anthony to integrate a tympani into his keys set-up...Could become a hit like cowbells did!
  3. Oh, actually it's actually all in .WAVE but are they the same thing? Damn this digital age. It seems most people enjoy .FLAC for HD sound but I find it finicky to load up with different players and it doesn't truly get all the tasty digital info.
  4. Who out there has a fat music library? I have an unhealthy obsession for hi-fidelity digital audio files. This has led me to creating what is becoming a mighty, fat library. 635 GB of info 44 days music 1311 albums 16401 songs I only copy an actual pressing of any CD at 44,100Khz, 16-bit in .WAV format. I pretty much just rob people's full stacks of CD's at a time and go to town. My biggest goal was being able to use it on any player in any capacity while still retaining all of the artist, album, release year, song title and composed by information. I write it into the metadata before it's copied and always (when possible) cross check the liner notes, allmusic.com and wikipedia. I can put it on a USB drive and play it all on people's car decks. It's boot stompin' good. Just a sample: (screen shot) I'm failing at uploading a screen shot...
  5. SHENANIGANS! Highway robbery, right there...Makes it quite ironic given it's reception at least. You can't BUY irony, a rare resource indeed!
  6. It's likely the acoustic renditions album "Rooms" from 2005, as I believe the UK or International version of Arrows of Desire came with it as a second disc and/or vinyl of it. That, or "Old Fighters" if anything. What a splendid surprise this album was, though. I pretty much was convinced that White Light Rock And Roll Review was a fluke in what was seemingly a decidedly less rocking solo career. Obvious songs aside of course, such as the two In a Coma extra tracks done with Ryan Dahle. I may be crazy, but I still really hear the style and attack of Meegan Bradfield's style of bass playing ever since (especially on Vancouver). Just listen to I/O by limblifter and ponder it, haha. Not this time though. A whole new sound of course. Pretty much a MG album prerequisite haha. Thank you for having ghost notes on the snare. Too funny knowing now that most of Vancouver was doubled over with electronic drums. Makes a world of difference and some nifty fills, too. Like the pre-chorus of Mutineering. You can hear the self-produced coming out, though. Seems like Warne Livesey really does the trick for keeping a very dynamic production. His best production effort yet, though. Hospital Music got away with being sparse even when it was even when drowning in tons-o-stuff like Moon Over Marin. One of his finest efforts, easily. Top 3 pedestal worthy? Maybe. Underdogs and Avalanche are still "knock-your-teeth-out-it's-so-good", so it has some stiff competition. But I think it may be a winner. Bronze medal, anyway. How Canadian! Curious to hear the first week sales numbers. I was almost sad to hear it likely wouldn't be a top 10 first week seller for the first time since 1999. I think it will be a slow burn album. No doubt, it will at the very least get talked about for a long time as a high-water mark. And I was also pleased with the pleasant message he left in regards to the long time fans. Classy fellow, and a 100% classic Canadian artist. ...all that's left now is to do an album with Ryan Dahle, Meegan Bradfield, Ian Browne (Alarmbell!) and because he's great, Anthony. Just do it. And have Bob Rock produce it! Hahaha just dare to dream people...
  7. No way, can't blame Bob Rock they should blame themselves for not keeping Mike Turner around. I would say Jeremy Taggart is the only thing that kept the songs enjoyable all these years. Although I will admit the very first song "All For You" off the Bob Rock produced Gravity album is something I enjoy. Go figure it's the last song Mike Turner wrote with the band, haha.
  8. Bob Rock is thanked in the liner notes and I find it somewhat of a surprise. I am mighty curious to know what for, not to mention how they are associated. Made me wonder though...imagine Bob Rock producing a Matthew Good album...Hahaha jeez it would epic. He recorded Age of Electric for cheap, he should really just record the next solo album for nothing. We can call it his official pennance for letting Lars run wild on the disgraceful STAINger...(St. Anger)
  9. Damn I hope he is serious when he says he wants to bust out Primetime Deliverance...Can't deny though, Champions of Nothing is much fun to play on guitar. Plus that guitar lead is ace. Always wondered if it was Bruno just noodling or if it was pretty much lifted from whatever demo Matt had.
  10. Okay, the panda story in the indie88 stream is too hilarious, I want to see this picture of the guy in the panda costume getting attacked by the angry moshers.
  11. Live at The Kool Haus in Toronto for the Avalanche tour. First concert I ever saw, EVER. Can't be beat. Thought the album was kinda meh, at first. Hahaha. I was a huge Underdogs fan boy though. I didn't even really play music at the time but I could already tell I missed Ian Browne on drums. That guy is stellar. Now I look back and realize how great of an album it is. Stellar production. It really sounds like it was recorded analog. That snare drum is just so warm and full sounding. I would love to hear an interview with Warne Livesey Talking about the making of it. I think it is actually a great slice of Matt's guitar playing. Really creative guitar bits and tones all over the album.
  12. Yeah awesome cover. Also of note are covers of Darling Nikki as well as Have A Cigar with Taylor Hawkins on vocals they always have amazing covers!
  13. Wow, people like Echoes? I thought it was a completely lackluster condensation of In Your Honour. Although I really liked The Pretended and Cheer Up. Wasting Light is damn good if you ask me, beats the last 2 records. I will always have a deep fondness of There Is Nothing Left To Lose. The album covers every single sound of Foo without ever seeming disjointed. The fact that you can put songs like Stacked Actors and Ain't It The Life together shows how well the album fits. Oh, and Self-titled is purely badass. Anyone else hear the Pocketwatch EP? It's not bad!
  14. I totally agree I hear 4 minute mile. Actually I hear many shades of the Enjoy The Silence cover as well. Pretty awesome that Matt posted here as well! Hahaha most artists tend to avoid the fan forums like the plague, and understandable since they are usually full of cretins and trolls, hahaha.
  15. Had It Coming is pretty good but damn, We're Long Gone is great. It makes me clench my fist and nod approvingly.
  16. Hot damn combined with the single coming out Monday that is 3 new MG songs. Huge thanks for recording this set.
  17. I am curious to hear Via Dolorosa, the comment in the press release was funny. From those clips we heard it seems like there should be a good cross-section of post MGB work with a renewed kick. Although considering the nature of LOES, he could have easily written some of these songs over the last few years, but they didn't "fit" with the album. Already more pumped for this than the new QOTSA, haha.
  18. I have always wanted to thank whoever managed to get the bootleg of "Breath Of A Nation" from that Zaphod Beeblebrox show. Was it someone on this board? What a killer song it is. Just another "hidden gem" of the MG catalog!
  19. Hahaha snatched out from under him! I think everyone here can get an "assist" point. High fives!
  20. I always wanted to do a cover band, besides playing a few Matthew Good covers with other bands I've never done a full on tribute, nor have I seen one. I would love to do one or at least one show for fun the hardest part would be picking the setlist haha. What's a good Matthew Good tribute band name? How about Beautiful Midnight?
  21. Also, at that acoustic Zaphod Beeblebrox show in Ottawa, I yelled at Matt to play Casual Walks. He commented that he literally could not remember it at all, but was amazed someone liked it.
  22. I forget what it is I yelled out during the Massey Hall live recording but you hear Matt responding with the "we're going to a well known destination my friend, nowhere" at the end of Hello Time Bomb. That's my claim to fame.
  23. I can only imagine the frustration of not being able to get the physical copies in your location. I had this discussion with a friend, and while he prefers vinyl over CD's we both agreed that having the music in an actual physical copy with the general tactile experience of flipping through your selection can not be replicated. It has a charachter to it that grows. I know all the jewel cases of my most listened to albums have had the cover tabs broken off from being dropped far too much, haha. DeadArtists, I agree the tracklisting looks promising. I am glad to see that you will have a chance to get a good cross-section of his work. I always liked 21st Century Living. First concert I ever saw was his show at The Kool Haus in Toronto in support of Avalanche and I quite enjoyed and remember the version that was played that night. Of course I can no longer recall what it is he specifically said to replace the "ambitious supersizing" dialogue but I know it was just some random rant and he was on fire. I remember there being photos from the show on the secret "special card with access code when you buy the CD" Avalanche site. I wonder if it's still online? Hahah. I enjoyed the "Near Fantastica" edited version that was offered for download, I think it clocked in at about 4:30 or something. Would've been an interesting addition to this compilation. I think Old Figters is a great way to take care of the lack availability of MG overseas. I figure if this is getting international release, the new album also will wherever there is enough interest, so there is that to look forward to for everyone without access to the back catalogue. I have a feeling that it is going to be an "A-game" release. Aaaaand truthfully, since it doesn't seem like it is being released in Canada, having a hard to get track on it that I couldn't get in a physical copy in would drive me nuts, haha!
  24. I use all the performances from the "Live At Massey Hall" 2 disc album. All the full band versions, except "True Love..." since It's only acoustic anyway. It rocks. Plus it has the banter! Haha.
  25. I find that while I do like Hospital Music, in almost every case the live versions of the songs are superior. Anyone else try just making a playlist of Hospital Music songs from the Live At Massey Hall album? 1. Champions Of Nothing 2. A Single Explosion 3. 99% of Us Is Failure 4. Born Losers 5. Odette 6. Black Helicopter 7. I'm A Window 8. She's In It For The Money 9. True Love Will Find You In The End Total time: 49:37 I like all of the playing way more, and the songs have more of a true "Matthew Good" vibe in the live incarnation I find. Plus it cuts out the bunk on that album and makes for a great listen. And decent drumming! Ghost notes and fills make everything better. I also specifically cut Devil's In Your Details because the live version is way too damn slow. Too bad because I love that song. I tried to make it as close to the "album order", but haven't given it enough thought on how to make it more streamlined haha. It's been a while since I listened to the actual album since discovering this. Anyone else try?
