I can't say I agree with you. I am sure many will disagree with me, but "So Long Mrs. Smith" hardly ever gets played by me. I always felt it was filler.

Did I inspire everyone to grab a setlist and get it signed???
-
You better be excited. I wish I was able to go. I hope he's more into it for you than he was for us. Let us know how the show was. Just a tip: Ask the soundguys after the show is over for the setlist. Stand outside the bus after the show. You'll likely get autographs. It worked for us.

I don't want to speak for him..maybe he is pissed. I just think he meant that concerts (for what you get in an hour) can be very expensive. Matt did give it his all and I could be wrong, but I don't think he really wanted to be there that much.

Don't buy drinks. You just cut your cost in half.

I arrived in Philadelphia around 5:45; traffic was pretty terrible on I-95...just like usual. I went inside, sat down and had dinner. The merchandise wasn't too great. I wanted to buy a T-shirt but was told they only have Small and Medium. I'm hoping they were just sold out of the others. Who sells only small and mediums. (I looked at the medium-sized shirt and it looked like it was for a teenage girl). So I was let down on that. (If anyone is thinking of getting one they are $20. The CDs are $15.) The opening band was alright; I thought every song sounded the same. The lead singer did have a great voice though; I have to give her that. Matt came on around 8:45 and played the following and in this order: The Boy Who Could Explode Great Whales of the Sea Load Me Up Last Parade Born Losers It's Been Awhile Since I Was Your Man Odette Apparitions Weapon _________ Giant Champions of Nothing The show was very good and high energy. Matt seemed to be tired although I do think he gave it his all. There was a quite a bit of crowd banter. A gentleman in the crowd bought the band all shots and brought them on stage. This turned into tales about various members/agents getting roofied. After the show I was able to ask one of the sound people for the setlist on the stage. After exiting the venue I waited by the tour bus. The drummer and bass player came out and were some of the nicest musicians I've met. They're just very down-to-earth people. They signed my setlist and Vancouver CD. A lady from the bus told us that Matt will sign autographs but will not be taking pictures. We were to "form a line" but there was honestly about 1 other person besides me outside. When I went inside the tour bus Matt signed my setlist and the In A Coma CD cover I brought with me. (I have to admit, he wasn't very personable; but in all fairness I don't think he was feeling well...or he was tired). Handshakes were a no-no; I guess he's afraid of getting sick. I thanked him for finally touring the U.S. with a full band to which he didn't say much. At this point I felt I was probably being a bother and just told him to have a good rest of the tour and left. Overall, it was a very good show. I wish he would have played a little longer. For as little as he gets to tour with a full band in the U.S. I still say that he could at least play for an hour and a half. But since I knew going into this it would be a short show I don't feel too ripped off. Now I have buy a frame and find a nice place on my wall for my setlist...

Well today is the day I've been looking forward to since Christmas. I waited 10 years for this. Philadelphia here we come.

I am assuming from the previous things said that if I ask him to autograph one of my CD booklets he won't make it seem like a burden? He's a cool guy with that? I'd love to get a picture but I fear that may be going too far...I don't want to be a pain in the ass to him.

I definitely agree Audioofbeing. I saw them in Hershey, Pennsylvania on the Riot Act tour and they were great. It was about 3 hours of high intensity and quality. I don't know if anyone here on the board is a fan, but Nine Inch Nails live (especially on the Lights in the Sky Tour) were amazing. I've seen them 3 times and they always played about two hours (or more) and it was intense the entire time..keyboards getting pushed over and smashed, guitars getting thrown in the air and crashing down on the stage...good, good, good stuff.

I'll take everyone's word on it. I'm still psyched for the show. Sidenote: I saw Everclear twice (and Art solo once). I didn't notice any poor vocals any of the 3 times. I must have caught him on 3 good nights. It's a shame they've become sorta lame. Songs From an American Movie, 1 & 2 were both really strong albums IMO.

Well...knowing that he plays for the same amount of time in Canada makes me a feel a bit better. I was reading previous reviews and have seen bootlegs where he was said to play like 20 songs. Needless to say, I was feeling a bit screwed over with like 60% of that. So thanks for letting me know that. I don't mean to sound ungrateful and I know I can't compare Apples to Oranges. I have the utmost respect for Matthew Good as a musical artist. He stands among the greats in my mind. I saw the Eagles play in 2007 and they played for seriously...3 hours and 15 minutes. I realize Matthew Good isn't The Eagles but...these guys are in their late 50s and 60s and they can play that long. And all we get is an hour? I used to be a big Everclear fan back in the day and after I saw their show (they only played like an hour and ten minutes) I never liked them as much. I am hoping that doesn't happen here.

I'm very excited for Wednesday night. I have to confess though...I'm still a bit disappointed with finding out I'm driving all afternoon to see him play an hour show. I'm not complaining because it's great to finally be able to see the show? But an hour? 10-13 songs? That's pretty lame. I hope I'm not disappointed.

If I am missing something please fill me in because I don't mean to be ignorant. I know $25 dollars isn't that much but I would probably never subscribe to it. (I respect Matt's opinions, but politically or religiously I could not be further away from his viewpoints.) But that's what makes the world go around, right? I think it's neat that he wants a more intimate atmosphere where people can post their viewpoints and feel comfortable. Despite the neat demos and stuff...what's the real incentive to join? His setlist book? Yeah, it would be nice to have but what are the odds of winning. The Forum...we already have one here. $25 dollars to hear Matt's opinions and editorials? Everyone has opinions. I can't justify that. If you can, great. I wish Matt and the designers of the site the best of luck with it.

For those who have attended the shows on this tour, how much is the merchandise going for. How much are the autographed CDs? How much are the T-Shirts? Anything else that is for sale???
-
So if I want to get something signed and meet Matt should I plan on staying inside after the show or go directly to the bus?
-
What's up with the delay in setlists? No MG fans down south??
-
I'll be at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, PA (about 3 hours if I go the back way and avoid all of the traffic). Pittsburgh is too far of a drive for me (4 hours with no traffic...last time I sat in traffic for 2 hours getting downtown). I was between NYC and Philly and even contemplated going to both, but I think I will have to settle for just one...tough economic times. Anyway, I'm still excited even if the setlist is shorter than I anticipated.
-
I've seen other relatively unknown artists play for around 2 hours already. I don't know if anyone on this board is familiar with Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters). I've seen him several times and he usually plays for about two hours...given it isn't usually a high energy show. If anyone is a Neil Young fan (or a fan of singer/songwriter who is a great guitar player) I would highly recommend you check his music out. Does anyone know of him??? I am still looking forward to the show. I just hope it has the high energy as I anticipated...like I said...I've waited 10 years for this. Does Matt and the band usually do meet-and-greet after the shows for autographs and whatnot? I would really like to let him know how much his music has meant to me over the years.

Hello everyone. I just joined the forum but have been a Matthew Good fan for about a decade now. When I heard Matthew Good was finally touring the United States with a full band, I instantly grabbed tickets and have been psyched ever since. I'm a concert enthusiast and have seen practically all of my favorite bands from AC/DC to Nine Inch Nails to the Pumpkins to Pearl Jam. When I go to a show the headliner usually plays for about 2 hours, sometimes even 3+ (Pearl Jam). I must admit...I will be making quite a road trip for this show and after seeing several of the setlists, I am a bit disappointed. Some of the setlists only have 11-14 songs. Now I researched his Canadian tour dates and they were approximately the same length. How long does his concert usually last? I'm doing the math and seeing that an 11-song setlist will probably be about 50 minutes to a hour. That seems a bit short for waiting 10 years.
