My guess is how he carries consonants. It can definitely work in some instances, but I notice it on Matt's older records all of the time. I mean, the guy improved his vocal abilities as his career progressed. He has moved further away from his older vocal style these days. You hear it a lot on the "D"; as an example "and I yadda yadda..." Matt might sing, "ann DIE yadda yadda". Ds and Ts become a part of the next word in the sentence. There are, however, more tricks to singing consonants. A lot of the letters have their own tricks for the best enunciation. Matt has really good enunciation. It's not easy.

Haha.. yeah, I know. However his voice was part of why the whole thing works so well... it's like an edge of a cliff.. with every measure..

Haha.. guys... I just saw Sunny Day a month ago in both NY and DC. They are fucking beyond amazing. They played just about all of Diary and LP2 in one shot... plus a brand new song with an unreal chorus, oh, and "Guitar And Video Games". Oh, and yes, everything was in D-tuning this time... thank god. Uhhh dude.. his voice is stronger now than it ever was in the past. There is nothing blown out about this (??) Jeremy is hitting notes that he never did in the '90s...

The first FF record was essentially Dave Grohl and Greg Dulli writing almost all of it. It's pretty good, but Colour/Shape kind of kicked it out of the water because I think that Grohl was way more focused by that time... not to mention the band was half of Sunny Day Real Estate during that period.. and you can't go wrong when you are repping that kind if a line-up.

Hello everyone. I thought that this may be of interest to some people here on the board. This is a thread from the NOC board that dates back to 2003. I printed this off and have had it in my own vocal file for, I guess, the past 6 years. I hope that the jpegs show up on here.
