It's bollocks. I'm with Sparq (Colin) and the whole gun control thing. If you look at what is used in crimes its usually stolen or the cheapest most accessible guns, so banning guns that "look scary" (literally one of the criteron for these decisions) isn't going to help. Deeper, social and psychological matters are to be addressed before gun control is, because ultimately, it really isn't gun's that kill people, people kill people and for reasons of insanity, and seemingly logical reasons as well. One might stress and thinking there is ANY logical reasons to kill someone but i'd suggest there are a few. I think if your being attacked by an assailant with a gun, you have the right to defend yourself. Ultimately it's this killer killing you, or you killing or at least shooting the person who is attempting to kill you. Clearly the responses to this will be "well just ban guns entirely" but that just means you'll create a black market of gun runners (more then already in existance) and only the illegal owners and police will have them. Not a situation i'd like to find myself. These abberrations are of course horrendous and i am not justifying or legitamateing them, but a blanket ban on guns will not solve our social/psychological ills.

Exactly. The legal rules sometimes sound rediculous, but free speech and hate speech run across these very dubious lines. For example, if you have a candid audience, such as being a teacher, and you spout out hate speech you will certainly get shit on, and rightly so. However, if you're simply a private citizen and you just want to walk down the street and say whatever, then nobody will touch you. Slander though, will be turned into hate speech depending it's context and content. It's all about subjigated peoples, there is an element here that may seem hypocritical, but when you look at it, minorities have been the ones exploited on this continent. Women, black folks, aboriginals, etc, are basically the mainstay's of hate speech and to protect people from disgusting comments that can lead to reactionary, racist and patriarch movements they're free speech (the courts feel) need to be curtailed. It's not like this guy will be taken seriously, he will not create a mass movement. However, if it was white people, there is a long history of white people exploiting all of the above mentioned. So theres a context here - white people have been known to exploit, and we don't want to see a return to some of the darkest days on this continent and other continents. i.e. Europe.
