  1. If it were outlawed it's implementation would be laughable. How do you prosecute a homeless person? Throw them in jail. They would spend at most a couple days in jail and be put back out on the streets. In fact, when winter starts they'd probably do anything just to get arrested, a warm place to sleep at night is worth quite a lot for the homeless. I think to stop panhandling we should stop the circumstances which create it. I am not saying that everyone of these people are not con men/women, obviously some are just kids who run away from home and then when the harsh winter hit's they go back home. That said, a lot of them are mentally and/or physically handicapped and I think they should be put in mental hospitals. Interestingly mental hospitals have had their funding slashed multiple times, some can't hold the amount of mentally disabled. Some went go to their families if they have any, others made their way to the streets or a jail cell. There is an entire phenomenon called "Doctors in blue" in criminal justice which has tracked, in Ontario especially, the phenomenon of police becoming doctor-esque to homeless people because the police know these people (some) have mental handicaps. It's a beautiful statement of the humanity of police officers who want to help the homeless but have their hands tied, they know the situation because they walk the beat everyday. That all said, con men and women are making minimum wage, they are a nuisance, I don't disagree, but the homeless who actually need help must be taken care of. A society that treats its most weak and vulnerable populations with disgust, punitive and draconian laws like outlawing panhandling is a society which is completely separated from the plight of their brothers and sisters.

  10. Fair enough. I believe in magic ;) haha Yes, the friday night guys night that I missed. Sorry about that, I didn't have my cell phone with me,i noticed you messaged me earlier, I had to get up early the next morning to go out of town for a wedding. I likely would have been too tired even If i got the message to go, sorry man :S. I miss you crazy kids, we need to get together SOON. Not just oh yah we'll get together, but actually make some plans, such as maybe thrusday night, or next monday or something? I haven't read the God Delusion, however, I don't think I will. I have watched tons of Dawkins stuff and, to put it mildly im already on his "side" if you will. I might read it down the road for kicks, but right now I have a plate of other books high on the reading list. haha and no, theres no material evidence that anything called a "sin" exists. Only the in minds of some.

  12. So you then disregard the parts of the Bible that talk about hell?
  13. I guess it really depends who you are. I know some really different types of Christians, some who definetely believe in hell, others who don't because they feel an all-loving God could not allow someone to be tormented by demons till the end of time. I don't even know where to begin with the logical leaps these people take, but hey, people believe whatever they want.
  14. What the, you're not religious anymore? By Catholicism do you mean the universal Christian faith meaning or the actual difference between Roman Catholic type of Catholic and Protestants (Who believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church)? i.e. the Nicene Creed Because if it's the latter meaning, then it's, by definition the same, only instead of going to confession you pray for forgiveness. So, what then, is the difference between Catholics having it easy and protestants having more tribulation in their faiths to overcome? I might just be confused at what you meant, but both, it appears to me, is fairly easy. You can feign being sorry for your signs to a priest, or you can just ask God for forgiveness through prayer, either way there is no material evidence that prayer or confession will absolve sins, so whats the difference?
  15. What surprises me though is why they even bother. Why do religious people, who feel they have the answers, constantly feel the need to "help". O.K. i get the whole, they feel they have the answers thing, that in the end they think they're helping us. But with something as personal as what happens to you when you die, why do they assume that they can convince somebody one way or the other? I've had to deal with religious people my entire life (my whole family except me is fairly religious so family talks about god and jesus get really really awkward at times). And they don't go around trying to convince others of their personal truths. So it always struck me as odd that other christians did this, and to me at least, it seems to be coming from a few loud sectors of the christian community, i.e. Protestants in the south, Mormons, and Latter Day Saints. I mean I NEVER have a Jewish person coming up to me telling me im going to hell if I don't believe in this that or the other. I don't even have Muslims knocking on my door telling me to accept Allah, so why just these Christians? Just because the Bible says spread the good word, doesn't mean you should, because the Bible also tells you to stone women if they adultresses, and we've stopped that now. (in some places).
  16. We have a high majority of atheists, agnostics, and some other folks who haven't specified but I've always wondered something. When your say, 70, or something, and you are dieing, and your scared shitless because you don't know whats going on, or whether you'll survive, do you at all hope that there might be an afterlife? Remember your probably scared shitless, most people are I think when their dieing.
  17. This just about sums up my feelings on the topic. There are points in time that i really wish there were an afterlife, i don't really want my party to end. That said, i'd rather not exist then live for eternity in senility.
  18. haha sort of a related point, i use OS X Tiger, and I'm just learning UNIX, learning applescript, etc. Because XP is for chumps. lol
  19. Isn't this the plot to Billy Connolly's movie? The man who sued God?
  20. You're likely correct. The english (i'm not a spokesmen for them, but from what i've seen and heard) in general, are apathetic if anything it seems nowadays.
  21. I think there is a multiple answers to this. Some Canadians feel (or from what ive heard them say) is that Quebec get's a lot of money and a lot of attention compared to the Western provinces. There's a bit of resentment in the west (and likely in the east) that Ottawa only listens to Quebec and Ontario because the way our system is set up, Ont, and Que are powerhouse vote provinces and if you can win both your likely to win an election. So there is some reason for resentment, and Quebec does get a lot of perks in terms of Federal money. That being said, this is no reason to "hate" Quebecers and it'd like those who say they do to spend some time with Quebecers and see how much they hate them afterwards! Another reason may be because some people hold onto this ridiculous rivalry between the French and English at the beginning of this countries formation. I've heard rediculous arguments like "The english and the french will always be at odds its the way it's always been". Those who posit such insane ideas don't know their own history, it was Cartier and MacDonald who sold the constitution to the colonies, thus united both French and English, even if that unity was precarious. Anyway, im sure a lot of racists will have a lot of justifications for their beliefs. This one in particular i have no idea, the resentment towards the french from the english perspective is insane. I can understand the French feeling angry towards the English since for a long time you couldn't get a job in the Federal government if you didnt speak english. The flip side to that is that many feel now you can't get a job in the government if you don't speak french. Whether this is even true anymore i dont know, but all these little theories ive heard over the years all completely collapse under closer scrutiny.
  22. I just got to my iTunes now and am f-ing loving this.
  23. I remember when i was in grade 7 and we were practically forced to use hot bot and ask jeeves to search anything online. It was so idiotic - even then i knew both of these sucked monkey balls, i hope ask jeeves isn't around anymore, and if it is, i hope it also gives up.
