  1. Thank you so very much for the heads up.
  2. Alright, seeing as it's now past 00:00 in BC the comment is in. Enclosed is the totality of my creative potential, about three sentences.
  3. I don't see any pictures ;)
  4. Just put in my application for science at UBC, will probably put one in for UofA and not entirely sure where else...
  5. Hehe, I just finished reading Lewis Lapham's Gag Rule, where Tom Clancy is one of the targets of his criticism.
  6. Hehe, I was at "The Source by Circuit City" on Saturday. My dad, being an engineer and later showing me models of noise cancellation on turboprop aircraft, decided to ask about noise cancellation headphones. ;)
  7. Nice, didn't notice this, although I find the description of the style he recently posted more intriguing.
  8. 7/10. Hardcore action, but wrong species.
  9. Ewww.. Calgary's a terrible city. I think it is, anyhow. I want to go to Vancouver and I want to study something in science but now I'm hearing negative things about the sciences at UBC. ;)
  10. I voted for The Simpsons, on account of its history, and echoing the sentiments that it no longer is what it was.
  11. Need more ancient MG on demand. Thanks ;) The difference between the intention of romance and love in a song and the most common style of being musically romantic is why we don't typically think of Matthew Good in that way. Everyone's done a great job listing the relevant songs though.
  12. 10/10. Sense of smell obstructed by McDonald's! How deep with the consumerism and such. ;)

    Dreams

So, wow, I had a surprisingly down to earth dream last night. It involved Matthew Good, and I blame my posting here and your $NF. It started either in a hockey arena, or with hockey on TV, but I ended up being in the hockey arena anyhow. It was the Edmonton Oilers versus the Detroit Red Wings. My family was there, and I sat down with a bunch of people from school. The people started to disappear, and the hockey arena either turned into a school gymnasium (with all the colourful lines and such, it was completely full with people) with those metal collapsible chairs or I fell asleep somewhere. Anyways, we shuffled out of that small gymnasium into another similar one. The hallways were dark and narrow and crowded and drab like at a school. It turns out there had been some complications concerning the hockey game and it was to be some kids playing baseball instead. This is where Matthew Good enters. He was late or something, some complications involving this concert. No idea how there was a concert relevant in all this, but he was to only sing one song. He gave a short speech, which I must have thought was absolutely spectacular and now completely forget, and then dove into "If I was a Tidal Wave". He didn't look completely like Matt Good. It was sort of like the version posted on YouTube. Then this smiling young basketball player and his mom went to the front and bla bla bla about how happy they were to be going to play basketball. This is probably where I left the dream, because I don't care about basketball. There was some little diversion into Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as well. All in all, a rather tame dream. I hope I'm not losing my imagination.
  14. Best in Show
  15. Death of a President. Killing Bush is a complicated thing, and they nailed down the consequences, but it got sketchier as it went on just because they were trying to push some other messages through.
  16. That's right, Designate. I used The Night Opus for a short story analysis (two, actually). ;) I can't say I did it much honour though.
  17. Ew, nail polish. 4/10.
  18. Alright, here's my attempt to rationalize favouring one of two spectacular songs. There's a distinction in tone between the two, both in language and music, and also in the music videos. (Apparitions is a bunch of people bullshitting themselves and Strange Days is just unfortunate. Pulling the trigger against stepping in front of a van?) Strange Days is powerful in illustrating the idea and feeling, but because of this it's also more passive. At the end you're left with a picture and perhaps your personal [deep?] interpretation. Apparitions is weighted more heavily to the challenging tones. MG drives the reaction to you, the listener. The questions in Strange Days are more rhetorical than those in Apparitions. The music is paced similarly but "Say hello," comes right for you at the beginning, where Strange Days enters and fades slowly. My gut feeling was for Apparitions because it has that edge, although that preference for distinction could be personal. It's classic and definitive alone, where Strange Days is more a member of the cohesive unit that is Beautiful Midnight.
  19. *bump* Yeah, I use last.fm. Although I fear that it instead uses me. ;)
  20. Everything about this one sounds much better than the recent line of films... Too bad I can't find my copy of Casino Royale I got for a grade 4 school project.
