  1. i have seen every episode. my roommate has a cable tuner video card for his computer, so i have him record them for me. anyone else feel completely hellbound after watching it, though? seriously, i feel like i'm a horrible person for finding the show hilarious. and the gay video game character (signature move: the reach around) is Xandir.
  2. i have this movie on my netflix queue... but which way does the movie lean politically? as in, from what ideological perspective is the story told?
  3. like many MGB songs, it will mean different things to different people. at some point in the past, either in a manifesto or a Notes From the Road, mg himself expressed that what he thinks of a song has no bearing on how it will be interpreted. the quote was something like, "nevermind what i'm thinking... what are you thinking?"
  4. i hate myspace. i have one, but my info is as minimal as possible. and this link will not take you to it. The Truth About MySpace Photos
  5. New drug plan? My understanding is that it was just for Medicare. Or perhaps that is just because I live in Florida, where over 60% of the state's budget goes to the damn old people. Anyway, I was NOT referring to government sponsored healthcare in any way, but rather the type of health insurance that a corporation would provide for its employees through an insurance company. Those are the particularly vicious types that conveniently "lose" claims for major surgeries and refuse to pay for women's birth control yet jump at the chance to pay for viagra. These are the backwards types of insurance that force women out of the hospital a day after giving birth, against doctors' advice. These are the asshole insurance companies who ignore twenty years of reasearch because they want to save some cash this quarter, at the expense of their patients' / participants' longterm health. Basically, what happens here is that the insurance companies will pay for the antidepressants, but only three or four therapy sessions, if that. In addition to my major, I have a concentration in psychology. I am very familiar with the debate on prescriptions vs therapy. My point in my phrasing, which perhaps was a bit unclear, was that yes, just drugs themselves are not as effective as drugs + therapy. Just medication results in a 50% relapse rate, compared with medication AND at least eight sessions of therapy. With each subsequent therapy session, the relapse rate decreases. I'd cite here, but I've already sold back my psych texts. These results have been confirmed by several studies, and these were the results I was referring to before. While that is indeed true that chemical imbalances exist--- in no way will I ever deny that--- coping mechanisms do as well, and sometimes those aren't completely as functional as they could be, hence the combination. Medication can fix the chemical imbalances, but even normal brain chemicals do not necessarily equate to effectively dealing with troubling situations or even daily life itself. and in closing, Yeeeeaahhh, I'm well aware of that after four years at university... ;)
  6. ha. someone else who embraces--- literally, apparently-- simplicity and multi-service clients. sure, direct connect doens't work, but that's why my friends and i use Simple Socket File Transfer.
  7. blogspot.com is very popular among many of my friends. the stylesheet or format or whatever they use is very easy to customize and i haven't seen ads on them. also easily accessable web address: *username*.blogspot.com
  8. What about Policy of Truth and Blasphemous Rumors? i counter with Strangelove and The Sweetest Perfection.
  9. I'm not sure if anyone else has heard of this website... it's www.Pandora.com and what you do is enter a song or artist that you like, and it will identify the elements in that song or that the artist uses and will then stream songs that contain the same elements. You can guide it by saying whether you like that song (play more like this!) or do not like that song (wtf, never play this crap again). As of right now, they have around 350,000 songs. Great feature: creating an account to save your channels so you can log in on another computer.
  10. there are a few albums that are simply perfect, where each song just flows into the next and the album is a whole, coherent work, rather than songs strung together. that said, the following albums fit this criteria: Beth Orton - Central Reservation Matthew Good Band - Beautiful Midnight Third Eye Blind - Out of the Vein Smashing Pumpkins - Machina Depeche Mode - Violator Coldplay - X & Y (even though i hate coldplay) Denison Marrs - Then is the New Now Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles Dave Matthews Band - Before These Crowded Streets Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring
  11. what type of music is it? the name keeps popping up, and maybe it would be something i'd like to listen to...
  12. i find it hilarious that i pretty much grew up on depeche mode songs and am just now realizing that every single song is about twisted sex and drug use.
  13. Ani DiFranco - "Napoleon" also, i hear she has a song called "The Million You Never Made," which is apparently directed at all the record labels that rejected her before she started Righteous Babe Records.
  14. http://www.bartleby.com/104/45.html Robinson. man, it's about time the internet caught up. if they could JUST get all the political science journals online, i'd be a happy kid. but yeah. the point here is that technology can make a person physically perfect, yet manage to ignore the "broken parts," as the man in the originally posted piece stated. essentially, it is saying that in all these technological advancements, the modern world has forgotten about the soul and man's sanity itself. indeed, american health insurance certainly has, in their ignoring the findings of several studies that have shown that a prescription alone cannot cure psychological disorders and the like, yet the general theme of TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCEMENT is pushed above all else. in the end, it just shows that even if you're attractive, wealthy, intelligent, and successful, you can still hate yourself. on the upside, it makes for good music.
  15. haha, thanks on that. i happen to love it, too. ;)
  16. Never Been Thawed. it's one of those weird ones that's pretty much only available on netflix. it's documentary-style, and it reminds me a lot of Best in Show. the main plot isn't the funniest i've ever seen, and at times it's obvious that they're trying too hard, but their little side humor bits are SO FREAKING HILARIOUS.
  17. Escape from Alcatraz
  18. funny you should post this. i have a bizarre little playlist going on right now with unexpectedly upbeat, cheery songs: depeche mode - but not tonight ---has a... sparkly... feel to it. kylie minogue - love at first sight madonna - lucky star talk talk - my foolish friend cowboy bebop soundtrack, disc 1 - walk in the rain duran duran - girls on film gwen stefani - what you waiting for
  19. egg and cheese sandwiches on an english muffin are delicious, but moreso the morning/afternoon after a night of heavy partying. not sure why. as for lunches, i had soup every single day when i was interning over the summer. sandwiches and salads are great, but they're so expensive. also a few summers ago, i had a sandwich with hard salami, swiss cheese, sprouts, and mayo on rye every single day. never got sick of either.
  20. I drink a lot of tea. Right now, I'm having some rooibos cinnamon apple. My current tea inventory is as follows: black: hibiscus, twinings earl grey*, mambo, oolong. green: apricot green*, tazo ginger green*. rooibos: cinnamon apple*, earl grey, orange. herbal: lemongrass, chamomile, peppermint. Items with a * mean they are a staple and I have that type of tea in a massive quantity, like a pound. These are all loose teas, with the exception of the twinings and tazo, which are already in bags. So... am I alone here in my excessive love of tea, and my variety of tea at that?
  21. Weapon and Avalanche. and i really adore Agoraphobe.
  22. I adore Parable and Break in the Rhythm. and speaking of, i destroyed the sound quality of the tracks i have collected over the years. they're all fuzzy. anyone have an original set that HASN'T been burned to a cd and re-ripped? 'cause that's how i killed mine. ;) all i have left to offer in trade are video clips of interviews, specials, and other television appearances.
  23. rico, song for the girl, house of smoke and mirrors. from the demos: entresol, requiem for rosemary, end song (from the second disc, not to be confused with endsong from the first). i guess that's why those were just demos.
