  1. of course they're hostile.. when somebody picks apart something you love, nature dictates that your defenses kick in.. imagine if some douchebag came in here trashing matt good.. the fiends would be up in arms. and you see, there i go on a pre-emptive flame..
  2. 2 of the decade's best albums? that is pretty presumptuous.. imagine how non-shins fans feel about that.
  3. tool fans <> mars volta fans <> radiohead fans ALSO, HE IS ONLY 19
  4. Is it Ice Cream? The difference with Sufjan though is that he knows it's all a lark anyway. He's having fun with it. When was the last time The Mars Volta had some fun? (My indie yuppiness is so horribly outnumbered on this board) prithee, tell me how you know the mars volta aren't having fun or aren't aware of their snobbish ways. so it's not the band that irks you, but the fans.. well, i loathe tool fans, yet am one myself. in this context, hate the playa, not the game.
  5. i'm just not a fan of animation in general, but i didn't think it suited the mood of the song.
  6. i would say the song titles you just listed go above and beyond trying to be epic.. i'm aware of all those post-rock bands.. and they are no less pretentious than the mars volta. i think pretentiousness prevails amongst all bands in these quasi-intelligent, rock snob genres.
  7. i would've liked it to sound as his acoustic songs sound live. i don't see how this would've been any different.
  8. so they are pretentious because you declare them as such. yeah, look at their titles.. oh my, spanish! names of fictional characters from a story! big words! the mars volta can also write short, catchy pop tunes. they did so as at the drive-in. then they got bored and here we are.
  9. coheed and cambria - the willing well (IV) - the final cut
  10. it would be the same as a copy protected cd wherein some drives can't read them and some can.
  11. i watched a couple minutes and was generally disappointed.
  12. i'm actually terribly disappointed with the overall concept of rooms. i was under the impression that it was one take 36 minutes long with some street noise mic'd into the background. i was not expecting such structured layering, overdubbing and general studio trickery. needless to say, i am left a little jaded by the whole premise.
  13. it doesn't need attitude.. the original has attitude. should've just redone the originals exactly as they were so we couldn't even tell they were redone and then we could bitch about how nothing was changed.
  14. that song was titled as mbg cover.
  15. if they are pretentious for doing what they want then so be it. radiohead are pretentious and hell, so is matt good. but if you don't like that type of music then obviously they'll suck to you.
  16. coheed and cambria - the willing well (II) - from fear through the eyes of madness
  17. opeth - ghost reveries mg - in a coma coheed and cambria - good apollo i'm burning star IV elton john - honky chateau (vinyl) ac/dc - high voltage (vinyl)
  18. just click the * beside the commentary
  19. it's not really a leak because the album is out.
  20. you either like them or you don't. i couldn't care one way or the other. your loss.
  21. i prefer it.. i don't really like the regular version
  22. i care, obviously. when a band is in a studio recording for their demo, then they are in the studio recording. also, synonyms could be: experimenting, testing, trying out, etc..
