the movie had to exaggerate the problem of racial discrimination in order to send the message to the viewers that it truely is a problem. I still enjoyed the film, don't get me wrong. I found it moving, and found the transitions as the film moved on quite nice and surprising (although a bit less so since most movie reviews spoiled bits). I think the exaggerations got to me because of that Chinese woman's character. That's the one glaring point in the movie and my case for extremism.
  2. I'm on a bit of a mission myself now trying to gather up the songs myself. What has me though is that there's an "exclusive" track for downloading the pre-order through iTunes. Is there a generous soul out there who has it kicking around and would like to share?
  3. Yeah, I get the same "trying to cash in on Nightmare's success" vibe. They even use Nightmare's theme music in the trailer's I've been seeing. But I'm still psyched about seeing this. Looks quirky - good news for me.
  4. let's see.... shawshank redemption incredibles nightmare before christmas scarface 6th Sense The entire Indiana Jones series....god I love those movies... probably more but slipping my mind at the moment
  5. It's a tricky film to review. You can look at it on two levels. On one level, the FFVII freaks who've played the game and are already intimate with the story. On that level, I loved the movie and got a kick out of seeing all the characters we love being brought to life. But on a separate level, if you walk in with no prior knowledge you're going to absolutely hate it. This movie can't exist on its own with numerous inside references, no real story arc or plot. The only thing holding this together are the beautiful fight sequences.

I enjoyed the movie on a superficial level...but when you get down to it, the premise is absolutely ridiculous. Why are the racial stereotypes so vibrant and the contrasts so loudly obvious. This movie could have been so much more, but the pure abundance of characters means we only skim the surface of the potential story and character development. It seems like very manipulative at best...to make us feel good...that in the end, despite what we were set up to believe, good prevails.
  7. I've had some pretty bad experiences with Maple Music. It seems to be some backwater operation run out of grandma's basement. I put in an order a while back and it took a month before I had to call them to remind I was waiting for an order. ;) Did the smart thing and picked up the CD myself this morning.
  8. I'd say it's a pretty solid package. I've been listening and watching since 10:30 and I'm extremely impressed. Tripoli's always been a favorite of mine, but I love it even more in the new accoustic version. The only disappointment I'd say is the animated music video. It's nice to see 'rabbits' get a video to go along side it, but quite frankly it confuses me.
  9. I hope people aren't still looking for it...but if you are, SPOILER (Highlight to View) just hit the asterix in the video section when prompted for comments on/off. Failing that, simply go to Title 17 if you're browsing through a PC.
