Gomo, easy to say they're overblown when you're not the one administrating them ;) People come to his site for different reasons. In order to have a sustainable, secure and enjoyable experience, M+ was created. No one's forced to join and they'll always be great stuff whether you're a member or not.

The reason why non-members can't see comments is so that members feel more safe sharing information between themselves. Everything is private, and not publicly exposed. It's about community, and I think it's the best choice given the issues experienced in the past with commenting.

As someone who's worked on the site for several years now for next to nothing pay wise, I welcome the chance to actually be given a budget to implement the kinds of features and content that I know visitors would love (and deserve).

The 'causes' that Matt can write about speak to his ability to consider art as a medium for social communication. When we ignore the message, it says more about our inability to confront ourselves... it speaks to the fact that we feel unable to handle both truth and our own need for its avoidance. Art has no surface, save for the artist. The artist is like a prism; through the device of the artist, the single white light can become a rainbow of infintite expression. It is an illusion that the art comes from the artist. The truth is that the art comes from you. See it as surface, see it as profound- that art is yours to define. Make of it what you will.
