Man, that does sound great. I wish there was a better recording floating around. I really loved Under the Influence, it was one of those underappreciated tunes from AoB that we don't get to really hear anymore.

Man, I've never had this particular experience, but people generally seem to have conversations at concerts they could have somewhere else, even though here they're paying for a seat. It's ridiculous.

I did a few times, but not at the most recent Massey Hall show. I figured there'd be a lot of people hanging around and I was not really feeling well. The times I did meet him he was grand, though. Once outside the Phoenix on the tour for the In a Coma tour, once at the Mod Club during the WLRRR tour, and then once on the day Hospital Music came out at the Edge.

Raygun. Actual electric guitars instead of acoustics played through amps (at least that's what it sounds like). Also, background guitar during "all this time it's been killing you" that really add something.

I wouldn't have thought AskMen would be the type of place that'd interview Matt. No questions about bipolar disorder, which is kind of disappointing. Also how the hell did the interviewer know what car he drove?

They also cut "Going All The Way", which is a bleeping shame, man.

It'd be really nice if the reworked Suburbia made it onto the EP. It's really good and it's a shame it got missed on "Rooms".

I tabbed out and taught myself the solo from "Deep Six" once... that took a lot of patience. The giant solo is pretty interesting too. Don't even get me started on the backing guitar part from Flashdance.

Black Helicopter is really, really awesome, but I would say that I like "If I Was A Tidal Wave" even more... it's fucking brilliant, if you ask me.

Nevermind The Rise & Fall... How about The Hanging Of. Although, I think Unicorns of 9/11 is as good a title as any. It would probably get slammed by people for being insensitive or whatever, people who don't want to bother reading into why it's called that (which is their right, I guess) but mentioning 9/11 in anything but the most solemn way gets you torched. Also, "Shark Sandwich".

IMHO "Giant" is the ultimate ballad... "The Fine Art of Falling Apart" is romantic, but hopelessly so.

The name is a reasonable request... especially since she probably sucked a whole lot of his money out during the divorce. Not to mention all the money he shelled out while they were married. Anyone who says that "antidepressants are a scam" has never been in the kind of place that some of us have been where they've pulled us out. And no, it isn't a placebo effect, since often it takes a few tries to find the right medication, and the effects of the "wrong" medication are rather... nasty. Now what IS a scam are the drug companies coming out with a slightly improved version of the same old drug right as their patent on the old one is about to expire. Effexor is already post-patent, effexor XR is due to be likewise in 2008, so they're introducing a metabolite of the original drug that supposedly has less side effects... pfft.

Wow. FHC sounds like a real bitch. I've had that kind of thing happen to me before, like people dancing like they're at the fucking Roxbury while Weapon is going on and getting in the way of our view (I think that happened at the Mod Club show). Mostly I just manage to shuffle away from the assholes I encounter.

My god, the minimalist one-guitar Police Cars blew me away. I never would've thought it could work. Spoke to Matt afterward (out at the bus), he was in a good mood. I think he knows that the show went quite well. ;) Also, I wonder if he had intended to play Giant, or just did so because we were chanting? If it was the latter, I wonder if that's happened before...

To the original question - Absolutely. I've done some of my best writing when under pressure from team members. I'd imagine others are the same way.

I don't know. I feel alright with being told my girlfriend is good-looking. Just keep it tasteful. Jen Good is a model or something, right?

He was quite the interesting chap. We talked a little about Iran (bizarre, eh). He was drinking a Tom Collins, which to this day I cannot get myself to enjoy.

Firstly it's "tragedies of this era", I believe (from 21st c. living) On one hand, I'm pretty sure people like the Tragically Hip don't need PR stunts, they've got a well-established fan base. And a benefit concert, well, it's a nice little pop-culturish way of raising funds. I agree with Matt though. It's rather shameful that in the wake of the worst natural disaster in the last hundred years, we need to find reasons to help out. I do doubt that the CBC would've let Matt near a microphone. ;) Though it would have been wonderful if he could've pulled a Jon Stewart and gone on there, taken pause before his song and publically denounced this sort of thing, told those people sitting at home that they shouldn't need to be entertained before they start giving. Shame is such a wonderful tool. By the same token, I don't think that awareness events are a waste of time in the same sense. But everybody knows the kind of devastation that took place. It's now just about persuading people into doing something about it. If Avril can do that, then by all means, let her do it. It's just sad that it's come to this, really.

Heh. Testicular cancer - one of those things where the treatment is almost as bad as the disease. :\ Prostate cancer is also pretty awful. But luckily you don't get that until you're old and cell division is slow enough for it not to matter that much.
