  1. great song, but the video totally didnt suite it. The video was all about Matt's stalker problem (from the song Life beyond the minimum safe distance). Apparitions and Alert Status Red are still my favourite videos. I would have liked to see one for Near Fantastica too when he released it, I think he injured himself when they were about to shoot one though, not sure.
  2. Its struggling enough on sundays, if they put it on a thursday on the same time as the OC (not sure if theyre different companies or whatever) it wouldnt survive. I hope the show comes back up for a 3rd season, its the funniest show on air up there with Scrubs.
  3. I'd go fake black. I was surprised at ACF to see the black hair, I'd only ever seen him blonde before.
  4. I can't recall every time I've seen him live and what song was opened with, but I'm pretty sure he used Ma of Action at least once. First time i saw him, it was Giant at the vogue, second time, also Giant in Kamloops. Third time is blurry (which is where I put in MoA), 4th time HOSAM, 5th was at the commodore in september, I think Poor Mans Grey or Put out your lights (though I liked the encore of Hopeless much better) and most recently ACF with Giant again.
  5. Modest Mouse aren't we supposed to change the letter at each post though?
  6. Just remembered of the third time I saw him. He came onto the stage all by himself through the curtains, with just one light on him and an accoustic guitar and the whole crowd shut right up, then he started to play House of smoke and mirrors by himself. As the song progressed, the curtains slowly opened and the band was behind it, and when the solo kicks in halfway through the song, the rest of the lights came on. That was another great way of opening. Matts always got a great way of starting shows.
  7. I can see that punching obviously is something stupid to do in a moshpit, but trampling isnt anything someone does on purpose. In a moshpit, there are so many people, one person falls over and its a domino effect. I had someone faint beside me in the moshpit and fall on me, almost everyone around fell over as a process, and everyone together worked their way back up, that stuff happens in a moshpit and outdoor events. The guy who passed out was carried out by one of his friends.
  8. Their EP from '02 is pretty good too, and really hard to find. No Cars Go is probably the best song from that.
  9. Matthew Good Band. Wow thats fitting.
  10. Matt Good was huge from about 1998-2001 in Canada, and before that was one of the best indie bands before getting signed. Actually their "Last of the Ghetto Astronauts" is still the highest grossing indie record in Canadian history I believe. I believe it was Columbia and Atlantic that screwed him over and the reason he never got big in the states. They released BM with a few Underdog songs and no publicity at all. He had a small US tour which never got much attention, ever since then he became pretty bitter towards music in the states I think.
  11. First off, who's singing? If theres only 3 of you, that means either you or your friend on bass would probably be singing, so you don't want to pick any songs that are even remotely difficult to play while trying to sing. I've played guitar for about 15 years and I still have trouble singing and playing at the same time depending on the difficulty of the song. Second, pick the 2 songs, and for the next few weeks up to the show, only play those songs, over and over and over until you know them by heart and could play them with your eyes closed. Theres nothing worst than not knowing the songs live.
  12. I remember hearing Giant as my first Matt Good experience back in '99. I loved it, I had only heard beautiful midnight for about a month and Hello Time Bomb was on rotation on the radios. I never expected him to be so great live, he sings even better when he's in front of a crowd. What songs did he open with before he released BM? Everything is Automatic?
  13. thats awesome, I love the end, where did you get this recording from, a preshow or something? and yea can you repost the "watch" part, the link is no longer available.
  14. Its amazing how theres been near no mentions of that naked guy, and yet theres so many about the women. Im guessing the board is mostly guys then.
  15. Hold up, a goddamn WRENCH? Yea a nice wrench got thrown at him at ACF. I never knew that was their first live show together, I had figured thered at least been a few others for people to start asking about his new lineup. I thought they played pretty decent together, even with all the problems surrounding ACF. The Alma Mater Society at UBC is dealing with as many of the problems they can from that event.
  16. Just talking about when Matt opened his set with Giant and Man of Action brought back some memories. What do you guys think was your best experience of an opening song by Matt Good, and ofcourse, what song was it?
  17. Yea I would have love to see Matt open back in 2000 in Toronto when he got the Argonauts chearleaders to start the chant on stage for him. It's definately a great song to open live with, and really gets the crowd pumped. Man of Action is great that way too, it just builds and builds until suddenly the song explodes. I think Matt opened with it once when I saw him, it was great. The lights were out on the stage, and you could only see their silhouettes and hear Dave Genn playing the intro bit for roughly 3 minutes, and the crowd was getting pretty anticipated, then suddenly the lights kicked in at the exast same time Matts guitar started with the chords and drums kicked in, one of the best openings I'd ever seen.
  18. Id agree with Mrs.MG here. I think everyone's got their own interpretation, thats what so great about lyrics that can seen as meaningful and vague at the same time. The metaphors let the listener decide.
  19. ah ok, thanks.
  20. I loved that scene with the "giant juicebox" Tobias is the funniest guy on that show though. He has the most clever gay lines possible, and when Buster said "he just wants to see other boys linuses" I just about killed myself. Zach Braff was pretty good too, they've got alot of guest stars on that show, too bad it may not be back next season.
  21. Im pretty sure most guys here still have an interest for boobs. I'm not sure seeing a drunk half naked chicks all that exciting except when youre drunk and in the same area.
  22. thanks guys. I can't wait to actually hear some of the new stuff from the new set. Oh be Joyful and Details seemed pretty good, even with the mess at ACF from that. Was Big City Life written with Ryan or Christian on guitars, and which guitarist is it in the recording available in the NF store.
  23. So Limblifter is still around?
  24. Id think it the other way around, but then I'd actually need to see Dune.
  25. They couldve just brought in like Cookie Monsters relatives or something who eat Celery or some other greens.
