I liked 28 Days Later quite a bit, but the previews to the sequel seem like it'll be an ordinary action film, a genre that I like less and less with each passing year.

I'm going to try and see it this weekend. I do hope they don't dumb it down. The first one was very smart, and had a very intelligent quality to it. It was compelling.

what was the deal with their dad being smart enough to be able to track them down once he was infected? everyone else was just mindless drones but he was looking for his family. that doesn't make sense

Virus had a chance to mutate because it was incubated in an immune host for so long. You'll notice he also took forever to kill her, in a particularly horrible fashion.

 

I just made that up, but you can pretty much explain anything with a little creativity.
