I saw it last night and really enjoyed both movies. Looking back, they were pretty bad, but when I was in the theatre I was thouroughly entertained.

 

The only complaint I have is that

in Death Proof, you never see any zany exploits with the girl (the cute one!) they leave behind with the Challenger owner.

I loved Planet Terror and the fake trailors in between especially Thanksgiving. Death Proof only started getting interesting towards the end of the movie. It had to much meaningless dialog

Forget calling it the new Tarantino movie. First, he's overrated as shit and second, even though his movie was awesome for the driving sequences, that little other known director's movie Planet Terror was the definite superior of the two. Overall, Grindhouse needed Planet Terror. Death Proof as a whole doesn't work without it. As far as I'm concerned it deserves to be called the new Rodriguez movie before Tarantino.

i know of rodriguez's work. once upon a time in mexico and desperado are two of my all time favourite movies. i really, really, really want to see grindhouse now.

I did find it strangely amusing that Death Proof spent so long establishing the first four girls just to kill them all in about 5 minutes.
