for years, and as recently as 10 months or so ago in the toronto star, ive heard that johnny depp was deep into filming an adaptation of hunter thompson's "the rum diary."

 

since then, though, i have heard nothing and he keeps putting out movies. there are pages around about it that haven't been updated. anyone in the know as to what ever happened to this idea?

I haven't heard about a film. But if it's anywhere near as interesting as the original work, I'd like to see it.

sort of a tangent, but i heard that, previous to "fear and loathing", bill murray had done a movie adaptation of one of thompson's books. i haven't seen it, and i can't remember which one it was.

it's called "where the buffalo roam."

it's not so much a straight adaptation of anything, as an embellishment on hst's legend.

bill murray is ALMOST as great as mr. depp as thompson.

it's worth a viewing.

yeah, that's the one. i'll have to keep an eye out for it. bill murray is weird enough for that role, though my knowledge of thompson is based on depp's portrayal. i haven't gotten around to reading any 'gonzo journalism' yet.
