As far as classical artists, I'd say Salvidor Dali, and things painted in the Teneborism (sp????) style.

Francis Bacon is very interesting and I'm a Picasso fan. Dali is great as well. Munch isn't bad either ;)

Giger is amazing. Frightening and amazing.

 

Not an artist but I'm very (predictably) interested in a style of art called Superflat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superflat

 

I was introduced to it, when we had to take a trip to look at artwork for an assignment for New Media Interaction.

 

Chiho Aoshima had a HUGE piece covering a whole wall of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

i knew about them, but when i saw their display at the ago my head exploded.

i also love philip pearlstein. such great nudes. he inspires me a lot.

 

i am most inspired by jack kerouac, though. i know he's a writer but it really shapes my paintings. every word that he has transfer onto paper is solid gold.

I love Vermeer (and pretty much anything of the Northern Baroque persuasion), Degas, Velasquez, and Gericault. Art history excites me a lot...because I'm a loser.

one more i thought of. if you're familiar with tool, you've seen alex grey's work. i'm not at all spiritual, but i love his "progress of the soul" series. "wonder" is my favortite, but they're all pretty cool. he seems to have a thing for self portraits too.
