Besides those two:

It's Been a While Since I Was Your Man

Song For the Girl

Truffle Pigs

The Fine Art Of Falling Apart

And I've never really known about the "meaning" behind The Rat Who Would Be King, but I would consider it romantic.

depends what you mean by romantic. there are songs where romance is a theme or subject, then there's those that just feel romantic. personally, i think songs like vermilion or inescapable us feel romantic. even though they may not may others feel the same. it's just my opinion.

Romantic, nostaligic, I think the two can often be connected (as in Suburbia, for example).

Romantic songs: It's Been A While Since I Was Your Man, Song For The Girl, Fearless, Jenni's Song, Truffle Pigs, The Rat Who Would Be King, Inescapable Us. Probably more. Generation X-Wing.

The only part of Truffle Pigs that sounds even remotely romantic to me is the "Jenn, I'll bring them to their knees" line, because to me, that song is Matt's big "fuck you" to the industry.

I always thought of it as him saying, "I'm doing this for you, dear," So I guess that's why I find it romantic. I also think that it has a bit of a sense of desperation to it, where he's begging her not to leave him.

Fair enough, everyone interprets things differently.

That's the great thing about music. ;)

I've always thought the ending to Every Name is My Name, where he says 'Wake up sunshine, it's time to go' is romantic. Also, The Inescapable Us I've always thought is romantic. The line 'That's fate looking our way..'

You know, it's funny -- I've read, generally, that most people think that the 'It reminds me how uniform your beautiful is' line in Giant is a dig at conformist attitudes towards beauty, but I've always taken a different view.

It always struck me as a compliment -- your beauty is uniform, as in it's complete and full: everything about this person is beautiful.

In that light, I would think that the song is quite eloquently romantic. In the former light, however, it would be less so. I guess that's an open question, with a lot of interpretations.

I always took that line exactly how you described it...seems to fit, since it's followed with "we carry on like it's easy, like you're all out, and baby I'm your man"

That's pretty romantic sounding to me.

I find I Miss New Wave romantic and sad for some reason. And yes, Giant is definately romantic.

Though Truffle Pigs is probably technically a love song, the whole 'eat shit' part is just so revolting and whack to me. Still love the song, but I think that line drags it down.

A few songs from the "History teacher cd" era could be counted as romantic. "As long as you're mine" stands out for sure as a romantic song. "Coming out purple" is kind of a funny romantic. I'm sure there are others in that set one could call romantic but none stick out as such to me at the moment as most are pretty depressing if you listen to them carefully enough ;).
