I had gotten into a debate about the best grunge singer with a bunch of my friends a few days back. There was major disagreement within our group, and I am just curious to see who really is best.

Edit: My vote went to Chris Cornell, based on his performance on Badmotorfinger, and Superunknown.

are we talking about within the grunge period only? because some have had the luxury of a long(er) life and its kindof unfair to pit chris cornell of now against kurt cobain.

Within the grunge era only early to mid 90s.

Apologies if I left singers off the poll.

pardon my ignorance, but i didnt know sound garden or pearl jam qualified as grunge.

either way, i voted for cornell. because hes fucking sweet and if i was going to have a threesome with my girlfriend and another man, i'd have to choose him.

i think art has an awesome voice.

he does, but that one song they keep doing can only go so far. in their defense it's way better than the one song nickleback keeps doing.

ya art has a really cool voice. but im talking like the older stuff. of course not volvo driving soccer mom, but like the sparkle and fade cd, and the other one that was before which i just forgot. i think world of noise, its in my room, but im too lazy to move 20 feet.

and actually, i like nickelback too.

Chris Cornell. I <3 him. Soundgarden are my favorite Grunge band and his solo album was beautiful as well. I hear he'll be releasing another one soon so it should be interesting. I don't like Audioslave though ;)

Out of those choices, Chris Cornell for sure. Maybe it's because I love Soundgarden more than the bands of the others, but I love Chris Cornell's voice.

And I agree with Shiri, I don't like Audioslave, either.

audioslave i enjoyed when they first came out, they are going down fast. The Original Fire, might be the worst song i have ever heard in my life. besides morris brown by outkast, which i heard yesteryda

I never liked Rage Against The Machine so it's logical I won't like Audioslave even though Chris Cornell is one of my favorite singers.

I don't like Audioslave too!!!!!

But Superunknown is on of my faouviret cds of all time!!!

superunkown is awesome. it would have been super-awesome if they hadn't included spoonman. one of the worst songs ever written. my 'copy' of superunknown does not include that gem.

It's funny -- generally, I'm not very impressed with Audioslave ('Be Yourself' was probably the lamest way anyone could have written that sentiment into a song), but a couple of tunes they have are pretty good. 'Doesn't Remind Me' was a very odd one, given the usual stylistic tendencies of everyone involved, but I thought it worked.

That said, I vote for Vedder. The others are fantastic, but Eddie's got a damn wide range of styles at his disposal. Everything from some sweet or angry Beatles and Dylan covers to 'Do the Evolution' to 'Yellow Ledbetter.'

Then again -- man, can Cornell wail, and couldn't Curt brood like no other.
