I concur with Apocalyptica being awesome. Another very good band, which may be a little tamer is Sonata Arctica. They have the faster power-metal type songs, like 8th Commandment, but also slow piano ballads like Draw Me. In my humble opinion they excel at both, though they have their fair share of shitty songs as well.

 

But check em out-I don't think you'll be dissapointed.
