I whole-heartedly agree. His early work is brilliant, everything from Go Fly Blind to Push, to Euphony, to Mercy Misses you, to The Ocean...

I wish he'd put some of that folkier stuff onto his newer records, the closest we've really gotten is Empty Road.

My favorite would have to be Parable. Oh how I love that song. Go Fly Blind is a close second. The Bombmaker, The Ocean, Push and Brand New Tune are also up there among my favorites. ;)

Yes, I agree, I'd have liked his solo albums much more if they had that certain magic those songs hold.

Only heard the demos this week -I find there is a certian magic to this early stuff and its really great to see how he's grown musiaclly, lyrically and vocally - I really love the rawness to the music and the lyrics, and the fact that alot of the lyrics are written in stream of conscious, which makes them really cool - I particually like 'The bombmaker', 'Whispering in the dark' and 'Last of the ghetto astronauts' but there are plenty more excellent tracks too!

Personally my fav is The Ocean I'd probably have a heart attack if Matt ever re-did it as a studio recording, its just so damn haunting and good

I think my favourite is Euphony. That line 'room with a view' is just Matt to a tee. Feels as current as anything he's ever done, even though most people have never ever heard it.

Yeah, what I wouldn't give for a collection of the really old tunes, all on one disc.

I've always really liked "The Folk Singer" and "Joe's In Trouble".

Matt's talents weren't as developed when he released those albums, and it comes out in the music, but I bet if he released a guitar and piano album now it'd be brilliant.

You can even see some of Euphony's influence (the room with a view line) in Vermillion.

And Joe's in Trouble and Casual Walks are both brilliant as well. The songs just all have their own cool little feel and identity, and they all tell a story in themselves.

You're all overlooking the amazing songs of Bluebird, Dancing Invisible, and Second Sun.

Bluebird, Dancing Invisible and Last of the Ghetto Astronauts being my favourite of all of them.

I think he means like pre-In A Coma as in IAC is a retrospective of the last 10 years of MG{B}, and this was stuff before the last 10 years.

By the way, I've only ever heard Coming Out In Purple. Can anyone send me some early demos, if thats alright to ask?
