yah there's a whole other thread on jazz, but to name some you can't miss.. THE trumpet man Mr. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker mayhap you'd like Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Herbie Hancock, Mingus, Monk. and oh so much more. if you want vocal jazz, try: Etta James, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Molly Johnson (check her out my old teacher plays in her band). okay there is too much to name hope that helps a bit.

Mahavishnu Orchestra is some excellent fusion jazz. The best way to start off a jazz collection is to buy a Miles Davis album (Kind of Blue is the standard for many people) and then buy albums of the sidemen on the Miles album, and then buy albums from the sidemen of the sidemen on the Miles album.

check out Jaco Pastorious for sure. George Benson is good. Marcus Miller.

Getz/Gilberto is an album you MUST get (it's Bossa Nova).
