Avalanche Or White Light?

They're too different to warrant direct comparison.

 

If you're a fan of Matt Good's stripped down, up-tempo pop-rock ditties, you will obviously enjoy White Light.

 

If you prefer Matt's sprawling, mid-tempo songs laced with complex songwriting and careful sonic layering -- the ones that last 6 or 7 minutes, or more -- you'll prefer Avalanche.

Avalanche is the superior album for sure. WLRRR has its moments, but it really only has 2-3 good tracks. Avalanche is the best MG album, maybe the best album I have.

I love both of them but in their own ways, White Light is a much better turn it on and go crusing or something, but Avalanche is so much deeper, both lyrically and musically and is great to relax to.

WLRRR is the better one for listening with others, since it's got a more accessible sound in it, Avalanche has a mix of that, and deeper lyrics. I'd go with Avalanche.

The two albums have completely different sounds, Avalanche uses strings and the vancouver symphany where as WLARR is stripped down to guitar, bass and drums. I like WLARR song for song but weapon is an amazing song.
