what do you think when bands improvise? either on recording or in a live setting. do you have a preference? is it wankery/showing off? or is it dignified, and a sign of artistry? is there a time and place for it?

Being a big fan of DMB, I have to say. I love it when some bands do it, because it's just such an amazing thing.

 

Kind of like when Metallica would roll out the two drumkits for James and Lars to bash away together on.
