I'm pretty new to instrumental bands. I've recently discovered Explosions in the Sky and I think they are incredible. I want to see what other instrumental bands people listen too. So just post ones that you like or recommend me a few. Thanks ;)

I like Twelve Girls Band, if you're feeling Asian, a New Age duo called "2002", and a pianist called Kevin Kern.

There's also a post-rock band called "Mono" that's very chill...

Wim Mertins is also very good, as is the Taliesin Orchestra. I wonder if these are what you meant by instrumental bands?

To me, when I think Instrumental, I think super chill, spa/yoga type music?

When I say instrumental I'm not being specific whatsoever. I simply mean anything without vocals. I generally prefer post-rock but I'll try anything.

How's God is an Astronaut? I heard Dust and Echoes after downloading a compilation from soundless_space. I thought that was an awesome song.

Explosions In The Sky for sure number one of modern instrumental music.

Only reason why I saw Friday Night Lights because they did the soundtrack.

Do Make Say Think

And If you want more guitar:

Joe Satriani

Steve Vai

Neal Schon

Stevie Ray Vaughn (Guitar God)

Eric Johnson (Guitar Jesus)

Beth you're awesome. My favorites are also Explosions In The Sky and Mogwai.

But there's another band that hasn't been mentioned yet called Apocalyptica, it's four guys with cellos and they make amazing music! They started as a cover band for Metallica and whatnot but check out their original albums like Cult. Their music is really different and unlike anything I've heard before, very intense.

I'll back anyone who's mentioning Red Sparowes. Those guys have an incredible live show, to say nothing of their studio work, which is also stellar. Any time they come to the Toronto area, I'm there with bells on.

I went on a pretty big post-rock kick last year. Went through about two dozen various acts before finally sticking with:

Gifts From Enola

Russian Circles

Laura

Pelican gets a lot of respect these days, but I always seem to find their stuff lacking somehow.

Apocalyptica is pretty cool. I also listen to a bit of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, 12 Girls Band, Bond, and Jesse Cook. And thanks to you guys, am now listening to some Explosions in the Sky. Good stuff.
