When will there be peace in my country?... peace hopes were broken... after 40 years of ETA terrorist group activism, there was a hope of signing a peace treaty, but... ;) Madrid bomb shatters ETA cease-fire POSTED: 12:02 p.m. EST, December 31, 2006 MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Spain has blamed a powerful bomb explosion Saturday at the country's busiest airport on Basque separatist group ETA, declaring it a violation of a nine-month cease-fire. The bomb at Barajas International Airport is "absolutely incompatible with the permanent cease-fire that ETA declared nine months ago," Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said during a nationally televised news conference. He ordered the government to halt any peace efforts, but he declined to say that the attack "breaks the cease-fire," which was the way Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba described it to reporters a few hours earlier. A police source had initially said that the blast, which occurred in a stolen van and damaged a parking lot and nearby Terminal 4, caused no serious injuries. But Rubalcaba said that may not be the case: Police were looking for two people reported missing after the blast -- one of them a 19-year-old Ecuadorian national who had stayed in his car as a companion went into the airport to pick up someone. The other person was not described. If it turns out that either person is dead, the death would be the first attributed to ETA in three years. Beginning about an hour before the 9 a.m. (3 a.m. ET) explosion, three calls to authorities warned of the event, the third acknowledging it as an ETA blast, Rubalcaba said. After several hours, regular air traffic at Terminal 4 resumed Saturday. Terminal 4 opened this year and primarily serves Iberia Airlines, a private company. Flights at the airport's other three terminals were not interrupted. Before Rubalcaba's remarks, opposition leader Mariano Rajoy of the Conservative Popular Party told reporters, "This confirms what we knew: that ETA is a criminal organization that does not want any peace." Zapatero was out of Madrid at the time of the blast, but he hurriedly returned to address the nation at 6 p.m. (noon ET). Samantha Graham, an employee of CNN's parent company Turner Broadcasting, was in the terminal and heard the blast. Graham described a huge column of black smoke billowing into the sky. She said hundreds of people evacuated the terminal through jetways and gathered outside on the airport tarmacs. The Madrid airport is Spain's busiest, handling more than 40 million passengers a year, according to the airport's official Web site. ETA announced a "permanent" cease-fire last March, raising hopes for an end to nearly 40 years of separatist violence blamed for more than 800 deaths and thousands of other casualties. Last fall, low-level street violence resumed in the northern Basque region -- which ETA is seeking to make an independent nation -- as pro-ETA youths burned buses and automatic bank teller machines and carried out other attacks. In late October, authorities blamed ETA for the theft in Nimes, southern France, of 350 handguns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition from an arms factory. Arnaldo Otegi, a leader of the outlawed Batasuna party, which authorities link to ETA, on Saturday blamed the government for the roadblocks in the peace process. But he told reporters there's still a chance for peace, even after the bomb. CNN's Madrid Bureau chief Al Goodman contributed to this report.

yes, exactly, and it is not because I think there are "less important" countries than others... we all are humans and we all are Europeans, no matter you are living in Spain or in Germany or in Romania. The problem is that since the European Union is basically based on economics grounds, it is true that Romania cannot be at all compared to Germany (the "motor" of Europe, as this country is seen by the rest) or to France or Spain. And this point is why most of the left-wing parties in Europe are against (or partly against, i would say) this kinda European Union, just because it is based on economics and not so much on social issues. The requirements to enter the EU for this new countries or countries which are not as powerful as others are too high for them and in my opinion it is one way to keep them always at a lower level with respect to the powerful countries in Europe. It may work with respect to economics (the Euro is much stronger than the American dollar, for example)... but what about social issues? I'm not so sure about that, actually.

well, apparently yes, this year... dont know when, but i've read in this and other posts that there will be new stuff from MG this year... this song ("Black helicopter") is in the NF Store, downloaded it and sounds REALLY good. i hadn't heard it before, so it must be a new one (when u play it, it says "Demos 2005") and i dont even know if it will be in the new album, but at least, i've got it ;)

I'm from Europe and the impression -at least- that we have in Spain is that first it is a great union to keep peace and economical agreements in the "old continent" (as it is called most of the times), but secondly I agree with your view that it seems very unlikely that all countries can reach an agreement on everything, not only economics but specially social issues, taking into account that we are talking about lots of different (in some cases, very different) countries, with different ideas, points of views, traditions, interests... an example is the European Constitution. My country and some others voted for a European Constitution with no problem but countries as important as France voted against it. If not even the big countries in Europe can agree on a common Constitution, how will the other small and less important countries agree on decisions which will affect the Union? I dont know, i guess it is like a big "empire" with different cultures trying to reach an agreement on common problems, concerns and interests. Difficult but possible.

yeah, I know Erik you didnt say they were true or legitimate reasons and that they were the unjustified and ridiculous reasons Bush, Blair and Aznar gave to invade Irak... sorry if you felt that with my answer i was "accusing" you of justifying the invasion or something! I didnt mean to ;)

thanx, sean, for the lyrics... useful specially for those like me who are not native speakers of English ;)

I have the feeling that your feeling is right. I won't mind if it doesn't make it to the album though, since the demo is pretty high quality. As long as I have that, which I do, I'm happy ;) I'm really starting to get pumped for this new album. Oh man. I agree with you  I won't mind it if Black helicopter is gonna be in the new album or not. I've got it, quality is pretty good, I can listen to it anytime I feel like it (in the last hour, all the time...)... that's what matters!
