  1. Yup, for sure. Avalanche, WLRRR as well as AoD are simply great records and all unique in their own way just jam packed full of greatness. And often the ones I will suggest people to listen to (after Underdogs of course haha).
  2. officially retitled to "We Have Done This Before, We WON'T Do This Again" Good call on giving them the chop, though. If I were to think aloud on here, I would even cut another 1 or 2 and keep it nice and tight. The songs seem so dense already (just add Warne in there and it's another world) that it seems like just an overwhelming amount of stuff to absorb sonically for anything more that 45 minutes. But of course stuff gets minimized or chopped up in production so it's a whole new ballgame. Less is more they say. I still wish Hospital Music was paired down to 10 songs. it has it's "sound" and it's great but with as much of it as there was I felt it lost the sparse attitude that worked so well on most of it. I do love the hypothetical banter, though! Either way the songs making the cut are all good so it will be a fun one no matter what. Always cool to hear about it here first, though. I want to know who is going to be on it...although it seems like most of it's all figured out plus with Warne taking production control I imagine it will be Matt playing most of it with Pat on drums because he is an absolute drumming monster with his shiny bald head.
  3. Oh yeah, Pat Steward for sure! I'll even listen to Summer of '69 just because it's Pat! At the end of the day I pretty much just consider anyone he's done show or albums with part of "his band".
  4. Ryan Dahle, I wish he worked with him more! And by more I mean all the time and in a production combo with Warne Livesy! I thought Christian Thor Valdson was superb as well, although Dave Genn is simply an unreasonably good guitar player. The lead guitar player in my band and I just love his playing. We can both hum the entire change of season solo out loud! Hahaha. And of course Geoff Lloyd!!! What a great, groovy bass player...the 20th anniversary of LOTGA wouldn't mean a thing to me if it wasn't for that bass. She's Got A New Disguise, Radio Bomb and Symbolistic White Walls are prime examples of why he was the man. Myself and my friend played along to that whole album on bass start to finish all the time, hahaha. We would take turns playing along to it blasting it with his bass amp! R.I.P Geoff Lloyd...
  5. I pretty much couldn't agree more. It deservedly won a juno for best engineered record that year, I believe. It was playing everywhere I went for over a year because most of my friends love the living hell out of it as well. A good friend says it was his soundtrack for riding through the prairies on his motorcycle trip. It is hard to find an album that exemplifies perfection more so than I/O in sound, performance and uniqueness. It will always be a top 5 album for me. And my first introduction to the songs was also my first time seeing them live when they toured with MG. I'll always remember while hearing Fiercely Co-Dependent live that night I thinking "Why in the hell have I been happy with just having Tinfoil on Big Shiny Tunes" hahaha. Ryan Dahle is A++, and Kurt and Megan are also some of my favourite modern day musicians around. Funny how at the end of the day Todd Kerns is arguably more popular playing bass with Slash than I/O will ever be. No bashing, of course! Just a funny observation on how something so unbelievable can be so under appreciated.
  6. Ace tune, this should be the first track. Unless glockenspiel on a first song is too much like Avalanche... Should be huge with Warne producing. I wonder who will be making appearances on the tracks.
  7. I'm diggin it. You are right, many shades of irrational Anthems especially in the vocal distortion he uses. I am a big fan of the current bass player, excellent tone and attack overall.
  8. I would go for The Pixies as well but hey, either one would be neat.
  9. I don't think it was recorded on analog tape, was it? Either way, that album has a fantastic sound, I agree. Something I've found in all of the Warne Livesey productions is how much I love the snare and cymbal tones. You can't buy that in a plug-in hahaha.
  10. A new demo called "Cold Water" is up at the moment. I can't get it to play on my computer but hopefully someone catches it before it's gone.
  11. That new version of We Have Done This Before is fantastic. Nothing wrong with the first one, but this is far better. Especially with Warne producing it would sound mighty. To me it still sounds like trying to recreate LOES just with more "traditional" instruments. Fine by be, though. That album had plenty to dig into sonically and this already does as well in demo form. All I want to hear now is that Ian Browne is going to drum on it. Blake or Pat would be excellent of course, but as far as I'm concerned the combo of Warne + Ian has resulted in some of my favourite drum tones on a record. Advertising on Police Cars and Suburbia would I think be obvious examples. Bring on the ghost notes and snare drags!
  12. NOFX did a 17 minute one song "EP" The Decline and it's bad ass. Tough to say if it'd be worth releasing something like that in the long run, though. Recording any 20 minute song would be a nightmare I can only imagine, but the results just might be worth it..... Just do a pair of 20 minute songs for an album. Retro and prog is in, I bet it would get people talking. And to ensure you get as much studio time as you need, you could always just write songs for Jack Johnson to supplement recording budgets, haha. To me, the new stuff is sounding like a streamlined version of LOES. Perhaps a bit more of a focused attempt to bring out the overall tone and musical themes of that album but in a "rock" styled tasty candy coating? While it's a bit early to really say, even as demos these have a cohesive vibe to them. Thanks for posting them! And since a few were mentioned, I must say if any song deserves some studio quality recording I would put my vote for If I Was A Tidal Wave. Sure it doesn't really fit in, but it's still an underrated gem. Perhaps it has a place on a sequel recording to Rooms...? Wislisting FTW!
  13. PLAY CASUAL WALKS!
  14. I think it was a legit B-side of WLRRR that just never made the cut. The drums sound real to me, so that's my only clue to be honest. It also sounds like Rich on bass so that's something else.
  15. I always interpreted that line to be a matter of "be the one in charge or be nothing" in the world of drug addiction, abuse and homelessness that Last Parade is about. Basically a slogan of only the strong survive. At least my 2cents....There are too many questions to ask about his lyrics. I'll never forget the completely elaborate description of the line "how can you love jove drusilla and forsake rome", never would've guessed as much meaning was packed into one line.
  16. It looks like the fan forum for Rilo Kiley has gone dormant. A very sad day, indeed. I'm glad the "Rkives" album came out as a final hoorah and Jenny Lewis is putting out a new solo album this year (although the "jenny & johnny" album has lowered my expectations of this upcoming release) Anyone else a fan Rilo Kiley? Take Off's And Landings is an absolutely great record. Same with More Adventurous. Jenny Lewis' two solo albums are most certainly worthy of the term "classics". Noting the death of one fan forum on another artist's fan forum seems appropriate. I still believe there is a reunion in all of this, though. They are a band I want to see reunite as much as Age Of Electric.
  17. Very cool. I figured these were just lost to the ages so any quality is a win. I remember watching many of them but never thought of taping them. I was also too young to think of wanting to watch them years later, haha. and to throw in my own lucky sequence of events....Going to see him on July 27th on my birthday at some beer festival is going to be a great time. And no doubt some Arrows of Desire songs live. I wonder who will be drumming. I am going to guess Blake. If not him, then Pat.
  18. Truly one of The Bored's finest. Very sad. I'm glad we could be a positive part of his life at the very least. And another popular boardie on the QOTSA forum died as well. A poignant reminder of the frailty of our own existences.
  19. Yup, one of my favourite 1-2's as well!
  20. D'oh! Totally forgot to download them, I just always played the soundcloud player, hahaha. Awesome stuff if you can toss them into the store. Thanks in advance, Anton!
  21. Payola is back in a fun-filled-foot-stompin-pseudo-folk-pop-and-tambourine-boppin-way?
  22. 54-40 Melissa Auf Der Maur Copyright Dead Surf Kiss The Spades Melissa Mcelland The Dears Midnight Oil Rod Bruno (haha not a real choice but hey he's a great guitar player, the best parts of Hospital Music are him) Those are the bands I have mostly MG to thank for knowing. Mostly just associate acts and bands of past members. Already loved Limbifter and knew AoE at the time I got into MGB so they don't really count. I still hear people shout "Tinfoil" at Kurt Dahle during New pornographer shows, hahaha. I knew all the 54-40 hits but didn't know it was all them all along. I only got into them after "Yes To Everything" because of Dave Genn...a great album, even greater band. Yeah, Agoraphobe demo version is just better somehow. Irrational Anthems is a very neat record, though. I saw Ryan Dahle play the whole album except Lion Piano at The Supermarket in Toronto. *I will one day start listening to "Pavement" sometime as well thanks to MG, but that's also kind of because of Dan Bejar mentioning them and Sonic Youth's "The Eternal" album with Mark Ibold playing on it.
  23. They recorded the shows....but all that could be heard back was shivering...
  24. I always considered Hospital Music a Country-ish album of sorts, perhaps that was the attempt?
  25. Hahaha, to be honest I was waiting until all the liveroad tracks were all out and then listening to it all as a pseudo live album so yeah whole live shows would be great just for the banter alone, like on the Live At Massey Hall recording you cut out a hilarious comment about the front row of empty seats being leaf's season ticket holders. That's gold! Rehearsing a shit-ton of songs is no easy feat unless it's a band that's been playing the same massive amounts of songs since day one. Making up for it by showcasing the most recent album is a solid alternative to hearing as many different songs live as possible, albeit over different tours, haha. ...Imagine having all the live shows recorded over X amount of years then releasing an official live album done with a killer mix of the individual performances from shows which get the most popular...over the top, I know, but no one I can think of has ever done a "best of live renditions" album! As an added point, I wouldn't disregard the appeal of a tour not focused on any album, but deliberately done to play some deep cuts even if it's only the same cycle of 8-10 oddities with the usual live staples. If you made it known as such, perhaps did something fun with the fans to pick which songs get chosen it could be as much promo as a new album is for you, considering how hard it seems to be to promote your new albums, at least on radio. I shit you not, if you called it the "Suburbia full band version tour 2014" you'd get people going nuts hahaha. Cool insight into the live set up, too. That stuff is fun to hear about as well.
