I definately preferred the Fountainhead over Atlas Shrugged (at least until the last 100 pages when it becomes quite possibly the slowest moving and uninteresting garbage ever put down on paper). It's still exciting to wonder what kind of apprach they will take with this movie. What will they do with John Galt's speech? (it would probably take about 3 hours to say the entire thing word for word). I'll see it, but more out of sheer curiousity.. kind of the same reason we all went to see Star Wars Episode 3.

Hospital Music Survivor: Round Thirteen

All three are great, but I voted off Single Explosion. If born losers had've stayed around, I think it would've been a much harder choice for me. -
Yeah, I agree with you completely! Its a great album, but worth a 10? I just thought it was interesting that such a critical and presumptuous bunch would give this album that rating. I don't understand Pitchfork's standards, and I don't think they do either. O well, its still a very solid album .. but more like an 8.5 or 9.

aha its a pen1z lol -
hmm.. Born Losers is really growing on me too. I think after listening a few more times I'd probably put 99% of us is failure in my top 10, and Born Losers would be right on the edge.

Favorite Matthew Good Band Album
primetime_deliverance replied to saraislipknot's topic in Matthew Good
Audio of Being and Beautiful Midnight were a near tie for me, but I went with BM because I think as a whole, it stands up beetter then AoB, even if AoB may have better individual songs. edit: its interesting to see AoB out front though. It shows how our taste as fans really changes, because I'm sure that if I was to recommend an album to someone who wanted to get into Matt, that would be the last one I'd pick. It might be the hardest one to get into and also the most rewarding. Makes me wonder what we will be saying about Hospital Music in a few years, as the reviews for it have been pretty mediocre here (myself included). -
What Was The Last Movie You Saw?

3:10 to Yuma. I liked it, the people I went with didn't. Being a remake of a classic and all, its the kind of movie you have to go into expecting a throwback to the 50's. I don't think you will be happy with how it ends unless you sort of put yourself back in time to how things were 'back in the day'. Russell Crowe was really good. 7/10 -
You're speaking complete nonsense again. I'm a huge fan of Matt's (both as an artist and as a person) yet I've listened to Hospital Music enough times to realize I don't like it. The direction he has taken his music is of no interest to me, I'll come right out and say that the songs that are really "honest" such as she's in it for the money are the ones I like the least. Since when do fans need to love every piece of work that the artist they support puts out? Being a fan does not mean forsaking your ability to actually think critically. Hospital Music is a sub par release for many reasons, but since this album was more for him then it was for us, I'm cool with that.

What Was The Last Movie You Saw?

A German movie called the Lives of Others. It was excellent. Very compelling. A really interesting look at the conditions in East Germany under the Iron Curtian. Has to be easily one of the best movies of 2006. 9/10 -
There's only really 4 good songs and a lot of filler on this album. But the good songs are really good.

Do any songs from Hospital Music break into your top 10 list of all time Matty Good songs? I would say no. Although Champions of Nothing would be close. Opinions?

the city of Buffalo may diagree with you there ;) The flyers have a good chance to make the playoffs.. although the D is very suspect. Rathje, Hatcher and Gauthier aren't going to win many races for the puck, skilled teams will tear them apart. They' ll really miss Pitkanen, and I'm not sold that Kimmo Timonen will be a good enough replacement. I always thought Pitkanen had huuuge potential upside. Should be fun to see though, only a couple weeks till the start of preseason! -
you mean best? and why not? i care deeply. even though we already know champions will win..
-
I think it will end up coming down to Champions of Nothing and 99%.. at least it should!

From my time in the UK, I'm a big Liverpool fan. Harder to keep track of in Canada though ;) -
I can think of quite a few that have had that kind of effect on me, Champions of Nothing would be a recent one for sure. But I think one of the most underrated MG songs is Man of Action. I love that as an opener to Audio of Being. When I heard it I was so instantly blown away. That and Tripoli are just so great.

hmm songs I skip.. there definately aren't many but I would say Future is X-Rated, North American For Life, She's in it for the money and Anti-Pop are the weakest.
-
why don't we just get rid of the worst remaining song? which is, clearly, She's in it for the money! come onnn

Blue Skies is great, too bad its the only 8 minutes I ever listen to on that album.
