Radiohead
Quammy replied to Shortcut To Moncton's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
I really liked Amnesiac. Though, with the exception of Pablo Honey, all their stuff is really good. Even Hail to the Thief, which doesn't seem to be much of a fan favorite here. Has anybody heard anything about a new album? It seems like they're due for one soon. -
I kinda find all of Jarmusch's movies to be a little boring, even the good ones. I liked Ghost Dog and Dead Man, even though they were both kinda boring. But I pretty much hated Coffee & Cigarettes because it was so boring. It is cool to watch his movies to see who is in them though, he usually has some cool actors in his flicks.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

I loved the scene where Steve is packing up his toys and he has the emotional goodby with the Aquaman doll. Great stuff. "You know how I know you're Gay? You like Coldplay."

I heard "Everything is Automatic" on the radio back in 1997 and I was really impressed with the lyrics. Radio music in the late 90s was really poppy and superficial. I was impressed that there was a song on the radio that had some substance. That and I was getting out of my punk rocker phase, so hearing a rock band with an anti-corporation message helped ease the transition.

There's a decent article that was recently posted at USATODAY.com about Clerks II. Read it here.

The new character, Randy, is played by Josh Meyers, who is Seth Meyer's brother.

Blockbuster Going Under?
Quammy replied to bettafish1776's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
I hope Blockbuster goes bankrupt, they deserve it. I stopped renting from them years ago. I was tired of getting ripped off and charged late fees on things I never even rented. Plus, their selection sucks. The last time I went to Blockbuster (3+ years ago) I rented the only three movies in the place I wanted to watch and I kept them for 18 months. I cut up my membership card and I won't even consider going back. I rent from Jumbo Video. They have good prices and an awesome selection of movies to rent or buy and they have free popcorn. Plus, lots of neat impulse stuff like toys, bobble head dolls, and little plush Gizmo dolls. -
I love the Threatdown. I never knew bears were so dangerous. We need a war on bears.

Not included are: True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Four Rooms, From Dusk Till Dawn, ER, Sin City, or C.S.I. I'm looking for your favorite among his full length directorial ventures.

I hope the show gets picked up for another season, regardless of what network it ends up on. It's just too funny to let die.

Chuck Norris movies, chessy 80s movies, and anything with Gumby in it.

Trailer Park Boys is the best thing to happen to Canadian television since The Littlest Hobo and My Secret Identity.

The show is going to be cancelled at the end of this season. It's almost a shame because the show used to be good, but over the last season or two (or maybe even more than that) it has grown stale. I had to laugh at the end of season seven when they tried to introduce new characters to replace Eric & Kelso. The best part was (SPOILER ALERT) that they literally killed off Charlie (one of the replacement characters) after only four episodes.

"Why the long face? Genetics?" Has anyone seen the DVDs yet? I've been trying to find a copy, but they don't seem to stock it anywhere. I might even break down and buy it off amazon.ca but I wondering if the set is worth picking up. "Stamos!"

Should The Bring Back Futurama?
Quammy replied to ryanolmstead's topic in Rentals, Television, and Readables
Futurama rocked the house, but I don't necessarily think bringing it back would be a great idea. When they brought back Family Guy it got really weird, like they figured they didn't have to follow any rules anymore. The new episodes don't make a lot of sense, they're way more vulgar and crazy and they're packed with non sequitur gags. Then again, the new espisodes of Family Guy are way better than the old episodes. So, I don't know what to think about the Futurama situation. I do miss Bender though. -
Annabelle is a great track.

Personally, I didn't think The Devil's Rejects was a very good flick. I think Rob Zombie is a very talented director, but I just don't care for his subject matter. It's obvious (especially if you watch the documentary on the DVD) that he's a big film buff and he knows what he's doing behind the camera. I just think 70s-style slasher/Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies have been done to death already. Though I have to give him credit for doing things in his movies that simply shocked the shit out of me. That and he casts people like Ken Foree, Leslie Easterbrook, Brian Posehn, Geoffrey Lewis, Michael Berryman, and Danny Trejo. He chooses to use good character actors rather than flash-in-the-pan celebrities.

I picked up a copy of Samurai 1: Musashi Miyamoto released through the Criterion Collection and I couldn't be happier with it. Mind you, I got it second hand and it only cost me $5. I agree that it sucks how Criterion titles are usually more expensive than other versions of the same movies, but the Criterion copies do look and sound amazing. I could have bought a cheap-o version of Musashi Miyamoto, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been as good as the Criterion version. If you've ever tried to watch a cheap copy of a subtitled movie (any Kurosawa flick or decent Samurai movie) you know how frustrating they can be. You'll kick yourself for not shelling out the extra cash for a decent copy.

Seven Samurai is amazing. It's even better if you watch The Magnificent Seven (another western remake) first. I think it has Mifune's best performance, even better than in Yojimbo.

Apparently parts of the movie are going to be in black and white but the majority of it will be in color. The Clerks II website has a video blog, which is updated every week or so, with lots of cool behind the scenes stuff. They do what they can to keep it spoiler-free, but a few tidbits have been leaked out. Still worth checking out though, if you're a Kevin Smith fan.

Your Favorite Bands
Quammy replied to josiegross's topic in Music In General: David Bowie Appreciation Station
Wolf Parade is pretty cool. They're on Sub Pop, which I guess isn't exactly a major label, but I guess that also means that they're not a 100% independent band. Either way, they're cool and they're Canadian. -
Snatch......Guy Ritchie's only good movie.
