First off Gomo...I'll forgive the Matchbox 20..but ewww just the same. I saw them open up for VH and at Lollapalooza the first time. They fucking killed, and other than several beers both shows, I was fairly straight. Totally worth it. I totally broke up the band I was in at the time, because I wanted to play more stuff like that, and not the lame ass hair wannabe shit we were writing. I no longer live in Maine, I now reside in Sunny SoCal and spend my days in the sun. I'm headed to VA in two weeks to see Silversun Pickups and Stone Temple Pilots. I like some of them, I really like the Facelift demos though, they have a raw garage feel to them. There's a club in Maine that does battle of the tributes, they did Alice In Chains vs Pearl Jam in June, and I played bass on a few songs with each band. Jenny, the lead guitarist from the band I'd been working with, can mimic Jerry, and several other amazing guitarists. She's a huge AIC fan, and probably would have loved that, and though she probably would have been sickened by bad covers. She often said that she might consider going straight for JC. Sniffle, she just moved to San Francisco, so it was good that I left maine when I did. Damn that must have been cool just for the sense of community. -

I'm jealous, Mrs. Jesus, those shows must have been awesome. I'd seen AIC a four times, I wish I'd had more opportunities. I agree with your opinion. It requires a an open mind to be appreciated. I was definitely drawn in by the combination when I saw them. It was a different feel, but it wasn't contrived, it was more like what you described. Definitely an experienced and well matched pairing. I think Duvall is an amazingly talented vocalist and he and Jerry complimented each other well onstage. I was referring to the demos and assorted awesomeness that was in the box set, that most non-fans never heard. Some of it is really quite insightful. I personally like the rawness of the Bleed The Freak demo. -
