Ahh yes, here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co...hew+good+arrows Just to be clear, there's going to be a vinyl variant of this version as well? I would love to have the "Rooms Session" tracks in that format.

A Double LP? Can you share what acoustic tracks will be on it? Man, if that's the case, I'll need to import this to the US. Props to the new label for the lyric videos. I thought the one for "Hey Hell Heaven" was especially strong, the weird monkey kid footage seemed like a perfect throwback to the MGB era.

Arrows of Desire is now up on Matt's SoundCloud page: https://soundcloud.com/matthew-good/arrows-of-desire

No autographed vinyl? Sadness. Also, seems the vinyl isn't shipping until October 8th, 2 weeks after the initial release.

I'm sure that's an error. Yes is an English prog rock band who were big in the 70's. Perhaps one track has a sample or contribution from them, but certainly not the whole album. I listened to the samples one time through just out of curiosity, but won't revisit them to preserve the experience of hearing the album for the first time. The sound quality is pretty bad, and heavily compressed, so you're not missing much -- but I can still tell that the album is pretty promising.

Any word on vinyl pre-orders? I have been scouring for information on the pressing, but haven't come across anything yet other than assurances that it's happening.

The Pixies influence he cited when first announcing this album is completely apparent in the first single. From that distinct bass line to his near spoken vocals during the verses. I dig it, but I really, really like what he's done on "We're Long Gone". That song is going to kick some serious ass live and it's great to hear live drumming back in the mix. Those fills just sound fantastic and give the song an increased sense of urgency and spirit.

Ha, I'm actually the one who got him to confirm that. Glad to hear things are still on track.

Still looking for a way to get a copy of this from the US. Anyone figure it out? EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out courtesy of UglyRedHonda.

I'm located in the US, but after listening to the demo for years would love to finally get my hands on the proper version of song. I'm not comfortable sending financial info over a proxy network (which is what I'd likely have to do to make it think I'm browsing from Canada), so I'd appreciate a PM from anyone who might be able to assist.

What performance of each are you using?

'old Fighters' (International Matthew Good Compilation Album)
joeposh replied to trufflepigs's topic in Matthew Good
Seems like a long shot given that it's an anthology, but will there be a vinyl version? -
Wow, you can really hear the Pixies influence on the second half of that first Day 9 clip. Love what I'm hearing so far.

I like The Boy Come Home, but completely agree with you on the live version of that song being far superior for some reason. Feel the same way about several of the slower Hospital Music era songs: Silent Army, Black Helicopter, and especially She's in it for the Money. There's something a lot more raw about those renditions, while the album takes sound too removed/constrained in comparison.

I think that's exactly the calculation here. When Matt initially moved away from videos, it was viewed as a dying medium reserved for pop stars and rappers with mega-marketing budgets and more often than not, the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze. Now things have been largely democratized by the emergence of online video platforms, the emphasis on sharing in social networks and the increased availability of high speed internet. Artists like Psy have broken through because of inventive videos, while many indie artists have been empowered to make creative videos on low budgets thanks to a sharp uptick in the quality of consumer level cameras and the no longer existent need to pander to the standards of MTV or MuchMusic. It's a great way to get your music out to new audiences while still controlling the presentation of it, something I don't think was true even a few years back.
-
There's also the chance that he was a bit disappointed with the market penetration of the last album, and would like to see what's possible when he blows it out through more conventional methods. Matt seems to like to treat each album as a bit of an experiment, not only in how he chooses to go about composing and recording it, but also in how he markets it. We've seen him dabble in vinyl (both limited runs and more sustained offerings), dvd deluxe editions, music video contests, autographed pre-orders, pre-release streams, exclusive digital editions, etc, his interest in possibly doing a few music videos for this one seems like an extension of that. I doubt this has anything to do with label pressure, since Matt has shown time and time again that he's perfectly happy to scrap things when they don't meet his vision (i.e. the Great Whales of the Sea video), but for that same reason I wouldn't get too attached to anything he mentions at this point in the process. Excited to see what comes of it regardless.

Personally, I'm thrilled. I respected the ambitions of Lights of Endangered Species, but ultimately it didn't grab me. Matt said from the outset that this was a record he needed to make, and I'm glad he did -- but I welcome a return to rock, especially if it means we're back to a more traditional method of recording. WLRRR may have aged better than any of his solo records, in large part due to the fact that it was recorded live off the floor with a full band and vintage instruments. Garage Band is a great tool, but it has its limitations. The drum fills and piano flourishes generated in an actual recording session will always have more warmth and punch to them than a computer generated alternative. Alt Rock, Full Band. Everything about that FB post excites me.

Want: Yup, Another Poster In Search Of An Avalanche Vinyl

Still on the hunt I'm afraid. Please let me know if you're thinking of parting with your copy or have one going unused. -
Hey everyone, Been looking for this one for a while, but I always seem to be just a little too late on listings. If you have an extra copy or are interested in parting ways with yours, I'd really appreciate you reaching out. You'd not only be providing an avid fan with a copy that would actually get a lot of spins, but you'd be helping me rectify the regret of actually seeing a copy of this for sale during the Montreal stop of the White Light Rock and Roll Review tour and not taking it home (didn't have enough cash on hand at the time -- picked up Raygun instead). PM me if you're open to selling yours, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks for your consideration!

PM sent.

Money I believe. Artists get a cut of alcohol sales at a lot of venues and it helps keep ticket prices down (upping attendance), since the venue has an additional, high-profit margin source of revenue. Additionally, all ages shows can be their own special breed of annoying -- though I doubt Matt would be a magnet for throngs of 15-16 year olds (but I also wouldn't expect his rare US tour to attract a demo that would talk through the songs either).
-
Also of note from the Chicago show, Matt mentioned that "Fine Art of Falling Apart" might be his favorite song he's ever written and there are a million things he'd change about that Loser Anthems version if he could (recorded in one take). He also stated that Chicago is one of his favorite cities and after this tour, he'd probably only hit Chicago and Buffalo moving forward. Both he and Emily were clearly worn down from the road, but they didn't let it show in their performances. Great energy throughout (including the trademark rants and between song banter).
-
Great news! Let's hope he plays in DC proper this time (Black Cat?) so I can convince more of my friends to come along. Iota (the venue he played in Arlington) sold out for the last full band tour, so I don't see the space upgrade being a problem.
-
Gah, I had a feeling something was up. I'm assuming the director got paid either way, so why not just share it with the M+ community as a perk? Kinda lame if you ask me.
-
Can't speak for everyone, but it was the full on rocking version at the Arlington, VA show.
